What is a Scepter?

Now that I have this wad of UPS money, I'm window shopping again. The 14 year old in me (figuratively, not in a sick pedophilia sense) might want something pointy and metally. I have seen a couple of pics of Scepters that seem pretty cool, both with EMGs....both V shaped.

Are there differences between explorer style and V style?

Anywhere I can see the specs on what these were about? Were they made for long? Cool trivia? Anything unusually good or bad about them?

Thanks.

Only made for a few years in the mid-80s (regular production started in '85). There are 22 and 24 fret models, all have bevels and the "hockeystick" headstock, standard with Floyds although there are some variations out there. Stock finish was black with red bevels, ebony w/boomers, but a number of other combinations exist. EMGs were not standard, but could be ordered or were added later.

Look out for broken/repaired headstocks on those, and AVOID refins! Also - if you find one with an original red-lined case, grab it. Those things are tough to track down.

Thanks. From jcguitars... I don't really like the colors on this one (unless it's flash-altered), but I dig the shape. I asked some questions about it, but the guy said to expect it on eBay tuesday with more information....

My Scepter has a thin neck. Definitely not chunky! Those guitars can punch a hole in upholstery and lamp shades.

So this guitar wouldn't be for Zorrow, unless he hated a particular lampshade?

zorrow wants a non trem model.

They had those? If anyone sees one, let me know. Mine currently resides in a Cheap Chick (in japanese) case. Really cool, but formfit would be mucho better.

Mine has EMGs; it's an 85 model so I've always assumed they were added later.

The Scepter replaced the Standard at the top of Hamer's pricelist in 1985.

I have fixed a ton of headstocks on those, they are prone to breakage. Before buying a repaired or refinned one, have it looked at by someone that knows. There are some terrific repairs and refins out there. They just aren't original. If you want an original one that may end up as collectible, stick with straight guitars.
