Roman Guitars Closing

(Port Washington, NY - June 14, 2007) Las Vegas-based Ed Roman Guitars, known as “The World’s Largest Guitar Store,” began liquidating its assets on June 13. This comes six months after Roman sold the business to a company operating area car dealerships. According to Roman, nine employees were let go in May, followed by 13 more on June 13. Roman believes a car dealership will replace his store, due to the potential for more profits.

“I want everyone to know I’ll be back and everything will be made whole,” said Roman. “I am in the process of buying my name back. I didn’t sign any non-compete clause, so I hope to reopen a store, although it won’t be as large as my last one.”

According to Roman, his potential new store would also open in the Las Vegas area.

That could explain the presence of only him and one other salesman when I went a few weeks ago.

It's a sad loss for the guitar community, but at least it will be replaced with salespeople of another industry held in like esteem.

That middle one has nice child bearing hips, but I don't know how one would reach them.

Nice shot. I understand they're all dental technicians.

I'd find a way.

Oh yeah, Ed Roman is a dick!

That place has always seemed deserted whenever I've visited with no more than two people on the floor, Ed usually being one of them.

Ironically, the busiest I've ever seen it there was just three weeks ago when I talked to the techs in back, and Ed was no where to be seen.

That guy has the worst reputation of anyone I have ever heard of in the music business.

I bought an Ibanez JEM Blue Floral Pattern in about '93 and talked to him in '96 or so. He said he had a collector that he could get $7000 from for it.

So I called him back and got the usual BS from him.

For those of us who ride; If I saw a guy that looked like that on the road, I'd throw a stick in his spokes. It's hard enough for us to get respect on the road.

What you don't seem to understand is that is a special bike, custom built to his own specifications by the greatest, yet unknown, builders on the planet. He's probably disgusted by all the idiots who drive the crap that the big overpriced respectable companies put out.

He's also not selling out to corporate haircut man either.

That bike and that hair still gotta go down.

Call me crazy... but I always thought Ed seemed to have way too much

inventory and the he moved to Vegas. was he in other businesses or

something?

and where does he meet all these chicks if that's him on the bike...

I tried to stop in whenever I was in Las Vegas and I'm sorry to see the place go. To me this store is another victim of the Guitar Center juggernaut. I stopped in last year on a Saturday afternoon and the place was empty. A few miles away at Guitar Center it was chaos. The beginning of the end for many of these places begins with losing Gibson. I would place Sam Ash on the endangered list. The Hollywood store is across the street from Guitar Center (the big one) and most of the time Ash is pretty empty.
