Cool band name but the wrong group

ok the pic of george michael in mindseye's big brown truck thread reminded me of something i've noticed over the years;

ever think the wrong band got a cool name?

WHAM would be a cool name for a hardcore punk band.

POISON? 80's thrash metal.

theres more i've noticed, but can't think of them right now...

Three words: Bare Naked Ladies.

Talk about your false advertising.

I've always thought Incubus' name and music didn't match. They're fucking great, though. Dig is the latest "best song I've heard in years".

Death Cab for Cutie

From what I understand, they got it from "Magical Mystery Tour".

Can anyone authenticate that? Last time I saw it, was during college

and I was... in college...

Blue Cheer's name should actually have been "Vincebus Eruptum" (Latin for "control of chaos"), the title of their first album. The title fits the band's concept better than their actual name.

Ditto on Cosmosquad's "Acid Test" album.

Green Day's name should be "Dookie" on accounta that's what I think of 'em.

When Leslie West was way overweight, CREEM Magazine opined that "Mountain" could be a one-man band.

"Death Cab For Cutie" is actually a name of an old song off one of the Bonzo Dog Doo Dah Band albums....members of which WERE actually in the Magical Mystery Tour film!! The Bonzos are actually in my top 20 of all-time fave bands. The members spintered off into some noteworthy projects, including musical work with the Monthy Python/Rutles guys, etc.

"Death cab for cutie" is a song by the Bonzo Dog Doo-dah Band. It's on the album "Gorilla" which was released in 1967.

Bad lacking in the "900 Foot Jesus" department, no?

i've only heard the one song, but the Fray is a horrible name if the rest of their songs are the same whiny pussy singer stuff. shoulda been a thrash band name.

Ben Folds Five

I don't know...I think they sound exactly like their name implies: Terrible.

The Cure. It's an awesome name and should have been reserved for a great band.
They are (still) a damn great band. And they've recorded som absolutely killer guitartones during their career.

Back to silly bands with good names. How 'bout Carter the unstoppable sex machine (from the UK).

Agreed. The Froth would have been better for those producers of life-sucking, wuss music.

Gotta say though, the Cure is still a damned good band - lots of classic stuff (some crap, but far more great stuff in there) over the last 30 years.
