zorrow Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Hello guys,I remember from some ads in guitar magazines that there was a combo amp which could host a POD or a V-Amp, so you could use your modeler as if it was an actual amp. Can anybody please tell me what it was, the brand and so on?TIA!
frankb Posted July 8, 2008 Posted July 8, 2008 Here ya' go http://www.atomicamps.com/faq.htmlnever tried one but thought it was an interesting idea. I spend way too much time looking at gear that I have no current use for......
atquinn Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I have one that I use every once in a blue moon with my Boss GT8. I have the 18 watt version and it's very loud. Patches will need to be eq'd to have more treble, which is a bit of a pain if you don't have global eq on your unit since the Atomic doesn't have any eq.-Austin
NeilZ Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 Definitely try the Tech 21 Power Engine Series. I have two of their Power Engine 60 units. One 12" speaker, 60 watt power amp section with EQ in a lightweight cabinet.I use two with my PodXT Pro.They also make a 2x12 and 4x10 config.
Jakeboy Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 +1 on the Tech 21 PE...I have one that I use with my POD at church.Excellent at what it does.
hamerhead Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 +2 on the PE. Works great with my Boss GT-3, and used ones are cheap.
HamerHokie Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 +2 on the PE. Works great with my Boss GT-3, and used ones are cheap.+3, and, coincidentally, I have one for sale!
ZR Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 How does the PE compare to the regular T21 T60 amp? I mean if you ran it in the power amp in (or fx loop return)?
darc Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I've been eyeballing the Atomics for years now, but I'm too cautious to buy "sight unheard" only to find that it isn't a significant improvement in tone. Lately I've been running my laptop (Guitar Rig 3) into the effects return of my old Flextone II (1x12 combo) and that works great, actually. Plus, if the laptop were to die at a show (should I ever gig again...) I would have an easy backup plan by way of the Flextone pre. I nearly bought a Power Engine back when I ran a POD but wound up with a Bronzewood instead - all the functionality of a Power Engine T, plus a vocal preamp, acoustic guitar preamp etc. Great for piezo equipped guitars, synths, one-man band stuff, etc. I really should have kept that amp.
Chollie Posted July 9, 2008 Posted July 9, 2008 I've tried tweaking the setting on my TM60 to work with my pod but never quite got the true sound of the pod. If you're looking for the same sound that the pod produces in the headphones the PE60 is the way to go.
NeilZ Posted July 10, 2008 Posted July 10, 2008 My experience has been that when using a PODlike device through an amp, all you really need is the Power AMp section of that amp. You do not want the preamp section as it will have too much im,pact on the sound of the PODlike device. The PE60 has 3 band EQ and the power amp section. Juts plug the out put of your PODlike device into the PE, EQ to taste and go.One last bit of advice. I always run my PE60s flat out. They just sound better to me run that way. I think most power amps do. Tinker with the output volume on your POD.
zorrow Posted July 10, 2008 Author Posted July 10, 2008 +2 on the PE. Works great with my Boss GT-3, and used ones are cheap.+3, and, coincidentally, I have one for sale!Ah yeah!? I might be interested. Can you please PM me the details?
