RacerX Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Picked up this tasty 1980 short scale 4 stringer a couple weeks ago... 0343, Solid maple body, 1pc mahogany neck, bitchin' fork headstock, rear-load E string. Actually sounds pretty huge for a shorty. Sure don't see many like this...Enjoy. Mark
HamStd Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Hey Mark: thank is a GREAT Score!!!!! Very rare and very nice find!!!! I am sure you have done a killer set up on it too and that bass must really kick ass! It looks like it is peeling alittle from that cold Midwest weather, maybe you ought to let it vacation out West for the winter..... Congrats on a amazing score. Peter
sonic1974 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Cool! I notice that only the low e-string goes through the body. I've never seen that before, is it a common design for basses?
cmatthes Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 That's SO close to one of my all-time favorite Hamers... "E" string extender on there too.
Shark Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 That's indeed a really great score and a true collectible ... Congrats!André
hamertek98 Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 WTF? I want it! Now. Is that an old Gibby bridge they put on those?Killer score my friend.
specialk Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Now THAT is a bass! Congrats on a damn nice score!
RacerX Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Awesome! -what do the two switches do?The flat switch turns on the preamp and the little led blinks, the other switch is a 3way (passive, mild mid-low boost, full boost) that plus the tone control really give it a lot of different tone combos.
MCChris Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Another great bass score in my neck of the woods. Where did you find it?
serial Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Very cool. You don't see many of those around.Unless you're at your house! ;PEXTREMELY cool score!
Cary Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Very cool. You don't see many of those around. Unless you're at your house! ;P EXTREMELY cool score! Okay, yeah, there's the four digit short scale in my guitar room, but besides that...
RacerX Posted March 6, 2009 Author Posted March 6, 2009 Another great bass score in my neck of the woods. Where did you find it?Came from a local musician I've known for years, but I didn't know he had THIS thing. He got it from Jol back around 81ish "along with some specials that they had lying around" LOL! He played in some local opening bands and sat in with touring acts and did some "house band" stuff when they came through town back in the day. So it was probably good PR for Hamer at the time.Mark.
Hamerica Posted March 6, 2009 Posted March 6, 2009 Racer X,Now that is a really, really cool score! I wonder how far off in serial numbers the Pete Farndon bass was from this one. I had never noticed the bass in the Pretenders photo until you shot the pictures of this one. Very, very cool. Hamerica
gfc55 Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 Nice one, Mark. I'll have to go over and check it out one of these days.
cmatthes Posted March 7, 2009 Posted March 7, 2009 I'll see your "little bass" and put up an even smaller one! Seriously, that is a COOL bass.
