sonic1974 Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Hi guys,Has anyone out there used any of the Robert Keely stuff? He makes his own pedals, but also sells a lot of modded stuff.Prices seem pretty reasonable. Looking to get a couple distortion/overdrive boxes to add some flexibility while keeping in the $130ish ballpark. Thanks!edited to add:Here's his website:http://www.robertkeeley.com
tomteriffic Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I sent my TS-9 to him to be modded. Just the standard stuff (NOS chip, less bass cut when switched in, more responsive tone control and more available output). It pretty much fixed everything I didn't like about the TS-9 in the first place. He was very easy to deal with, too.Be mindful that they had a fire recently and things may well still be SNAFU'ed there.

They are selling a modded Boss DS-1 at my local shop, $100 Canadian, about hmmm.......what's the exchange right now, about $90 US.Good deal?
tomteriffic Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 That's a Keeley modded one? I'd say yeah, good deal. I think my mod was well under a C-note (just for the mods on my old pedal), but it's been some time so I don't remember exactly.Try before you buy, I know he's done several different levels and degrees of modding on the DS-1's.Oh, it was about two weeks turnaround from inside the US.
Dumo Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 Keeley modded RAT here. Was definitely better than stock not as good as my vintage one. Robert has great customer service. He's up there with the best like Analog Mike.
KH Guitar Freak Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I have a Keeley TS9DX Flexi 4X2. Love her...

JohnnyThunders Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I would rate Analog Mike's stuff higher than Keeley's personally. Mike makes a great treble booster (Beano Boost), fuzs and over-drive pedals (KOT) but they are way more expensive than Keeley's stuff. I still have a Keeley modded DS-1 then my metal head nephew uses with his Randall sounds good for metal.

JohnnyThunders Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I had one that I used for a few months but then I got a DAM Red Rooster and it was better so I kept that one but for the price difference I would go with the Beano if you need a good treble booster. I found that my amp is dark but has a enough distortion so just a little treble boost and I'm good to go. I've been using the Red Rooster into a Klon which is also kind of cool but normally it's just the Red Rooster. I would rate Analog Mike's stuff higher than Keeley's personally. Dumo Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 As long as we are talking about OD/Distortions, I gotta recommend Catalinbread's Silver Kiss Trinity American Edition. Wow, this pedal sounds great and is flexible. Light to medium OD. Doesn't overly compress or color your tone... A classic in the making. Super open, articulate and touch sensitive. Sounds best through a cleaner amp. Here's a good clip with a Strat. It gets better with an LP.
Frank Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I use a Keeley modded Sparkle Drive. It's a lot better than the original. Robert is a great guy to deal with, too.
Disturber Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 As long as we are talking about OD/Distortions, I gotta recommend Catalinbread's Silver Kiss Trinity American Edition. Lol " Catalinbread Pedals - American Edition The American Edition Catalinbread pedals are built in larger cases for people with big feet, bad eyes, or a Napoleon complex. There is NO difference between the standard Catalinbread pedals and the American Edition pedals aside from the size. The Catalinbread effects offered in the American Edition are; Semaphore Tremolo, Silver Kiss, Super Charged Overdrive, and the Teaser Stallion. Seriously, the American Edition of Catalinbread effects is very useful for those of us who like to wear boots or jump on our pedals. "
DavidE Posted April 24, 2009 Posted April 24, 2009 I have a Keeley TS9DX Flexi 4X2. Love her...I have one of those as well and it's great.I picked up a modded Blues Driver last week and I'm not quite sure about it yet. I need to try it at some different settings.

But right now I'm using a Bluestone by Rockland Amps (my brother's new venture), a rotating bunch of drives and my Line6 M13 which really could do it all.Look for a used Timmy on The Gear Page. There's still quite a wait for them new. I waited.
Aceldama Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Have a Keely modded Rat (smaller box). Way better then stock, but as someone mentioned not as good as my old Rat. Good enough that I sold the original.. Much more flexable too.
sonic1974 Posted April 25, 2009 Author Posted April 25, 2009 Tell us more about Rockland Amps. I did a google search, but couldn't find anything. Thanks. hamerboy_ Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 My main rig for years has been a 1978 Marshall JMP 100 (2203) with a Keeley modded BOSS SD-1. I've had Boogies and even a Soldano SLO 100. That old head and pedal are it for me... At least until I can afford a CAE 3+ SE.-Bobby
humfree Posted April 25, 2009 Posted April 25, 2009 Owned the DS-1 Ultra for a time and liked it enough to buy a Blues Driver Phat Mod.. they were similar, but the Blues Driver cleans up better with your volume knob. Really nice pedal that stacks well with others - clean overdrives especially. Robert Keeley is a first class human being with excellent customer service and reliable delivery times. No hesitation is necessary. I also own a Katana clean boost that is awesome. It's OK to love your pedals, just don't LOVE your pedals.Good luck!
