Did Hamer ever make...?

A Newport without F-holes? I know there have been a couple Artists made without F-holes. Altho isn't any Studio that's chambered technically an Artist without F-Holes?

Of course, without the F-holes, the routing would probably have to be changed since there's no rear routing on a stock Newport. I probably answered my own question with that...

I was thinking about that. It would be cool.

I had an idea for an order with that option, though didn't go through with it (the guitar in my sig is responsible). List for deleting the holes comes to $200.

edit:

It would work just fine like it does on the Superpro. Hamer also have the cavity route sorted for certain pup configurations:

I think that a chambered Studio would get you most of the way there.

Then, by that logic couldn't you say that an Artist will get you most of the way to a Newport...?

I THINK the order would be:

Solid Studio

Artist

Chambered Studio

Newport

My reasoning is that I believe that there is more 'fluting' (lol) in a chambered Studio than there is an Artist. A Newport, as originally designed, is much more hollow but if sealed up should get closer to a chambered Studio. Just an opinion. The solid Studios and the Artist that I owned were not THAT different.

Interesting. Since I've never owned a Newport or a Studio, chambered or otherwise (altho my old Special FM sounded as good as any solid Studio I ever demo'd), I'll take your word for it. Also, I'm not aware of the exact amount of wood Hamer takes out when chambering a Studio vs. an Artist or Newport. Although, I vaguely remember seeing a Newport without a top, so...

I suppose the only way for me to ever really know for sure is to own one of each. I wonder how a Newport would sound thru my 5150...

I'm not exactly sure either. The Artist was advertised as having a small 'tuned' port beneath the F Hole. I don't think I've seen the inside results of Hamer's chambering (maybe a Talladega?) but I have seen other companies efforts and the chambering is more extensive than a small tuned port.

I'm sure a Newport would sound through your amp.

If I fart into a microphone plugged into the input of the amp, it would sound through as well.

I am feeling a little saucy. But I am starting to jones for a Newport something fierce. Even tho I'm not sure that it would be the best guitar to compliment my playing style. Maybe I should get one to force myself to expand my musical horizons...

Why is it that I get GAS right before I start a job that's going to keep me away from playing guitar much at all for the next few months?

Everybody should have a Newport to expand their musical horizons.

A stock Superpro would get you pretty close to a Newport sans the F holes. I also think you'd find that a maple topped Newport (without holes) or Superpro would sound reasonably close to that Talladega with buckers in your possession. A Tally Pro even more so.

The big difference between the Newport and the chambered Studio, outside of the hollowness, would be the spruce top vs maple top.

And in my experience, chambers make a HUGE difference in Studios.

I know, I was just joshin' ya.

I always thought that a Chambered Studio was exactly like an Artist just with no f-hole. I've had a couple of them and they definitely sound different than Studios, but less "open" than Artists and Newports (IIRC; I only had the Newport for a couple weeks ). Somebody get out an x-ray machine!

Here's the Tally Pro chamber. Anybody have an internal picture of a chamber Studio?

Maybe I wasn't tapping in the right places, but I felt the chamber on my (now former) Studio was more to the rear of the guitar as oppossed to above the pickups like the Artists.

Yep .. IMO, a chambered Studio would get you most of the way to a sealed Newport Pro.

Here's the Artist chamber alongside an Earthen Studio proto chamber:

The Earthen Studios had different chambering than regular chambered Studios. I believe chambered Studios look like the Artist on the left. Someone who actually cared (I don't really) could ask Jol about it.

...and i believe the prototype chambering on the Earthen Maple Studio did not make it to the final version. At least when i tap on #10, it seems to be chambered the same as an Artist.

I haven't invested in an X-Ray machine, yet.
