mathman Posted January 29, 2010 Posted January 29, 2010 Edited for grammar? Does gramma read the HFC too? Sorry, couldn't resist.
Uncle Thor's Hamer Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Yes, endorsements work, but what artist out there is going to inspire someone to go out and buy a Hamer, especially a $$$ custom order?Great question. I was inspired by Kaki King to buy a used Hamer. It was a combination of how she sounded and how the guitars looked close up at one of her shows. Those are attributes that can't be conveyed through any other advertising medium. If I could afford a new Newport, I would have bought one.I think something worth considering is that many people will try a used guitar before stepping up to the price of a new one. By buying the used Hamer I may have helped fund a new one for the previous owner, and someday I may myself buy a new Hamer.
rivaeast Posted January 30, 2010 Posted January 30, 2010 Guild guitars are currently fantastic guitars. "Ruined" is a far cry from Guild. Yes they are thanks to utilizing the Tacoma guitar factory to get them back up and running.... at the expense of Tacoma...another FMIC company bought to dismantle....
specialk Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Is it time to write the HFC's obituary? ;-)Only if it includes a music bed. Funeral March, anyone? No matter what happens to Hamer (and I wish the company a very long life), us aficionados will always be here to celebrate/commiserate/offer cake!
Guest JackButler Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 How bout an official list of options/things that they WILL do and how much they cost NOT prefaced by "which way the wind is blowing today"?LOLedited cuz I can't spell this morning!
elduave Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 How bout an official list of options/things that they WILL do and how much they cost NOT prefaced by "which way the wind is blowing today"?LOLedited cuz I can't spell this morning!A list exists, it's officialness is subject to "the wind" as it's a company only document, and one of the reasons for that is due to the length of the list (pages, and pages, and pages, and pages...).
esquared Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Length of list is not a reason that cuts it in my book... this thread is pages and pages. I can understand a list without prices because material costs change or access to skilled employees to do that type of work. If the reason is because they dont feel like doing some at times or even worse they will only do some for the "right" buyer, then at least tell us what it is. I could even live with a custom for the right pro policy but tell it to my face.
elduave Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Length of list is not a reason that cuts it in my book... this thread is pages and pages. And equally tedious! If the reason is because they dont feel like doing some at times or even worse they will only do some for the "right" buyer, then at least tell us what it is. I could even live with a custom for the right pro policy but tell it to my face.Sounds to me like you'd be equally tweaked whether they "told you to your face" or not!We all (myself included) take this shit WAY too seriously sometimes.

It doesn't matter how many pages it is, I'm sure that 'list' is in electronic form, and could be edited and sent out fresh to their dealers every day if it changed that often. From what I've read, even the folks here (who are here because they love these guitars), are frustrated that they can't get a straight answer on what's available or they get a "no" when someone else gets a "yes" for the same thing. It behooves Hamer to be a little more customer-oriented if they want, uh... customers! That one little improvement would seem to be a no-brainer and good for business.

I do acknowledge and sympathize with some of what you say, though.

I dont mind the seriousness of it all, it is our hard earned dollar at play here, as customers shouldnt we have the right to at least ask? I am just still trying to justify my Hamer infatuation (ok, again, maybe be declining to just a crush).

veatch Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 I can't speak for Hamer, but posting a list can set some bad expectations. There are some options that will not go together well, and posting a Chinese menu of items can send someone down the wrong path pretty quickly. The dealers on this board have all had some stellar custom builds made. Put a list of what you want together, and they will work with you to get a yes or no and a price. Oh, and if you really want it, don't take "no" for an answer. Greg and i didn't take "no" for this one: This, coming from the guy trying to understand Hamer's pricing...
Guest JackButler Posted January 31, 2010 Posted January 31, 2010 Veatch, I'd be interested in knowing the specs/details of this one and what exactly you wouldn't accept their "no" for in terms of options you got pushed through.. if you feel like sharing that info of course.

(no need to air them here...) Bottom line, Greg was terrific as my advocate, and Hamer built a stunning guitar that is a unique and incredible instrument. I would love to get a few more variations done...
Guest JackButler Posted February 1, 2010 Posted February 1, 2010 Cool!.. my pms don't function.. but e-mail works.
