DavidE Posted May 19, 2010 Posted May 19, 2010 I love Chicago. Downtown is cool. We'd just have to bear the additional logistics and expense. Obviously FMIC, Kaman and Hamer are not bearing the expense of this event. ;-)Since my firm has a Chicago office, I'm guessing I can get a corporate discount on a hotel but if it's all downtown, it may be cheaper for me to fly in and take the train downtown.I personally would be more interested in doing Hamer related events than City of Chicago related events, but I'm up for anything. Then again, it's been a while since I've been there at night (often day trips for business). After wasting time at the tourist clubs (BB's, Buddy's, Hard Rock, etc...), we went to an authentic Chicago blues joint and got to hear Bonnie Lee sing real blues. That was seriously cool.We were offered another October gig today so I hope we set a date fast as I really want to go! :-)
dboy66 Posted May 21, 2010 Posted May 21, 2010 Allow me to suggest that the jam take place in the showcase room of Superior Street studios in the city. Soundman and backline w/drums provided (which should cut down on the amount of gear people feel the need to bring) and it's not open to the public.http://www.superiorst.com/showcase.phpThe venue is on the west side of the city, so don't rule out flying into Midway airport and getting a hotel room near there (even if the jam is held elsewhere this is an alternative worthy of consideration). It just seems a waste to completely avoid all that the city of Chicago has to offer, especially since the plan is to have the reception with Paul downtown. I could see keeping everything in the 'burbs if this were happening in Detroit, because Detroit is a bombed-out wasteland. But Chicago? Sometimes you gotta live a little. And while it would be convenient for Bubba, I strongly encourage that this event not be staged the same weekend as the marathon, unless people want a logistical nightmare.Hear, hear. Thanks MCChris.....always the voice of reason.
Disturber Posted May 26, 2010 Posted May 26, 2010 Hell Yeah! My wife says I can go, (yeah, I'm a whipped dog, I know... ).That's the good news. The bad news... ...we just bought a pretty expensive house and are moving in in July. I am putting up our country house for sale next week. Depending on how much we can get for that house, and how much time and money I need to put up for renovations on our new house - I will know my financial status for a trip in perhaps July, August. It would be cool, I have not been in the States since 2002.

cmatthes Posted June 13, 2010 Author Posted June 13, 2010 Watch this space for more news this week... (!!)
BruceM Posted June 25, 2010 Posted June 25, 2010 Hmmm, now that I'm almost recovered from my last "special event," I'll have to focus on this one.
bubs_42 Posted June 28, 2010 Posted June 28, 2010 Watch this space for more news this week... (!!) I did the math. 27 minus 13 is 14. Which is two weeks. Cough it up already....
cmatthes Posted June 29, 2010 Author Posted June 29, 2010 We've zeroed in on the weekend of October 15-16th. Unless something unforeseen happens, that's when it's going to be. I'll be in touch with Chris H. soon to discuss any more details, and will let everybody here know as I hear!

My daughters first birthday is the 9th and I figured that would be the weekend.
DavidE Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 No gigs scheduled that weekend, but a week long trial scheduled for Monday. That could change as the case is being moved to a new judge at some point, but for now it is what it is.I'll make it if I can.
dboy66 Posted June 29, 2010 Posted June 29, 2010 plans to head back home to detroit are now cancelled.
Steve Haynie Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Is Paul Hamer going to be speaking to us on both days? Are we going to gather together on Friday during the day or in the evening? What kind of schedule do you have in mind? Right now is the time to look into plane tickets versus driving 14 hours each way. If there is going to be a long drive there just needs to be more stops along the way. Two nights in a hotel or just one is a question a lot of us need to answer. The big thing I have to work out is how to handle closing my office for a few days or paying someone to work for me while I am gone.
HamStd Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 The big thing I have to work out is how to handle closing my office for a few days or paying someone to work for me while I am gone.Hard life being a Male Prostitute..... Just kidding Steve.Peter
svl Posted July 1, 2010 Posted July 1, 2010 Blocked and blocked! This is fantastic! Can't wait to hear all the details.
gtone Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Other than the dates, do we have any more details planned for this event?
Steve Haynie Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 Specifics can come later, but do we arrive early on Friday and leave late on Saturday? Will Friday just be an evening get together or a full day? Can you give a schedule so we can book flights?
BruceM Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I haven't confirmed my own attendance yet, but please, let me be the first to cancel.
elduave Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I haven't confirmed my own attendance yet, but please, let me be the first to cancel. Aren't you supposed to wait 'til the week of to cancel?
Jeff R Posted July 16, 2010 Posted July 16, 2010 I'm going to have to beat you out on the cancellation, Bruce. Just compared the dates and we're playing the big annual fundraiser for the zoo in Jackson, Mississippi. I can't pass on that -- it would break the giraffes' hearts. LOL But you guys have a ton o' fun without me
cmatthes Posted July 16, 2010 Author Posted July 16, 2010 Waiting to hear back from Chris H. (Hectorp) on the room/venue info. Will touch base with him ASAP.
