caustic69 Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I have an 88 Chap and I love the fact that the contour cut of the body where your forearm rests is so pronounced. Most strat shped guitars have some kind of bevel/contour cut of some kind but not to the degree of the Chap. I even tried the John Petrucci model which has a version of this that is unique but I still prefer the Chap. My question is, do the californian, diablo, centaura or any other model have a similar forearm bevel? Feynman has helped me to post some good closup pics of this contour but you need to scroll down page a little ways. But I appreciate any info the Hamer community can share with me on this. Thanks
caustic69 Posted June 5, 2010 Author Posted June 5, 2010 Okay, somehow I jacked it up but click link to see pics of profile. thanks http://img708.imageshack.us/g/img1659f.jpg/
RichF Posted June 5, 2010 Posted June 5, 2010 I agree with you. Too many Strat and Strat style bodies leave that contour way too thick. Having it thinned out makes the body super comfortable.
caustic69 Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 Are there others that have this or similar forearm contour? How about from any other brands as well?
mathman Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 My 84 Prototype II has a nice forearm contour. You can see it in this picture.
caustic69 Posted June 6, 2010 Author Posted June 6, 2010 Thanks for the reply and pic but I can't really tell from that vantage point. Is it something like the Chaps contour?I am having an incredibly hard time adding pics. Please go to my pic link to see the Chap forearm contour.http://img708.imageshack.us/g/img1659f.jpg/

Armitage Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 In the days of CNC carving, you'd think you'd see a lot more of that.
G Man Posted June 6, 2010 Posted June 6, 2010 While not quite as pronounced as the chap, the combo of the belly bevel and forearm cut on my eclipse makes it super comfortable to play. Sorry, no pics at the moment.
caustic69 Posted June 10, 2010 Author Posted June 10, 2010 What Eclipse are you speaking of? Is it a Hamer or an ESP Eclipse (which is an LP shape) or some other brand? Let me know, Thanks!!!!
G Man Posted June 10, 2010 Posted June 10, 2010 Hamer eclipse. One piece mahogany body, mine has SD Antiquity Firebird pups and sounds great and is super comfortable to play. Here's a couple of shots to give you a sense of what it looks like.
caustic69 Posted June 11, 2010 Author Posted June 11, 2010 That's a nice looking guitar!!! Only thing I would change is to have an unfinished neck but I like it. I'm just surprised no centaur, califorian or diablo owners have not chimed in on this topic.
Guest JackButler Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 The Chap, Cali and Diablo all have a similar forearm angle/bout.
atquinn Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 That's a nice looking guitar!!! Only thing I would change is to have an unfinished neck but I like it. I'm just surprised no centaur, califorian or diablo owners have not chimed in on this topic.Cents, Calis and Diablos have smaller bodies than Chaps, so they can be just as/more comfortable with smaller relief carves. Anyway, I play all sorts of guitars and it's rarely something I think about. The only place it really bothers me is on Teles.-Austin

I'm just surprised no centaur, califorian or diablo owners have not chimed in on this topic. Not sounding funny but i think we couldn't be arsed because the list is endless:Cali / Diablo / Centaura / Steve Stevens / Charvel's / Jacksons / Suhr's / Caparisons / Valley Art's etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc etc.........basically most things that don't say Fender on the headstock.
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 I'm with atquinn: I rarely notice any forearm cutaway, so I couldn't tell you if any of my guitars have them or not, although I guess my Diablos, Centauras and Chaparrals must have them if you say so.I had a Hamer SATF that I sold because the slight upcurve of the binding on the edge of the guitar irritated my forearm. But the SATF I kept has the same slight upcurve/edge, and it didn't bother me, so I've kept it.I'm sure that didn't help you at all, but at least I weighed in, right?
silentman Posted June 11, 2010 Posted June 11, 2010 All the models you mentioned have a slightly different radius on the edge of the guitars with the diablo habing the most rounded over.
