zenmindbeginner Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Well, 15 years has been long enough I guess. I was a young man when I wrote this tune, that is for sure. lol! 1995 was a sweet year... ahh good times. lol. This video is for all of the blackface Fender, reanimation, NASA, 1965 Detroit, World Trade Center, Retro motion design, Portishead drum sounds, police brutality and minstrel show fans out there. You know who you are. All kidding aside folks, this song is my heart and soul... it's been with me longer than any woman has and working on it for the last fifteen years has been one long strange trip. So, check it out, please view it in the 480p resolution setting and keep an open mind. This is not your average run of the mill music. I am only interested in creating something that has never existed. it is, Enjoy.
Jem Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Very reminiscant of some of the post punk pre goth electronica that was around the underground scene in the UK in the early 80's. Please don't take offence but i didn't think you lot over there had it in you - inspired stuff indeed.
specialk Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Very inspired! And it blew me away when I read there were no keyboards used. Wild. Thanks for sharing, ZMB!
Brooks Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 zen played me this yesterday, i was blown away!! note how the images follow the vibe of the music;dark and angry, then later happy and colorful. the atomic bomb on the last powerchord is the shit!also the lava and fire images perfectly match the ballsy guitar solo tone (his trusty arlington heights scarab). fat synthy tones abound, moving images, this is high art. zen & my project this fall is to make a pro vid out of live footage edits from the 1st 2 NOT RUSH gigs.i'm psyched for the experienced help, geoff is psyched to shoot and edit a rush tribute instead of hundred of wedding vids (his day gig). cheers to my boy geoff!!!
burningyen Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 You really swung for the fences, very cool stuff! Agreed that the guitar synth sounds are great. I can only imagine how much work that must have been. How did you put the video together?
Turdus Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Interesting. Are you a fan of Killing Joke?

If your are interested, PM me.
ZR Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Very inspired and cool. That must have been a lot of work!
harry65 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 cool vibe!!!!!!!!!!! great job dude..................
G Man Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Really nice work. Love the editing work on the video as much as the music. thanks for sharing.
Crwth145 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 What a trip!!!Yo Zen, great job man... I highly enjoyed that! +1 on the "are you a fan of Killing Joke" question.
Feynman Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 That was fantastic. I think I felt about the same way in 1995. I think. I'll watch and listen to it many more times. Thanks for sharing it.
diablo175 Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Gotta admire the depth and complexity of the project. I might not totally relate to the style but I certainly marvel at the scope and enormity of the project. My hats off to you Zen. I wish I had your tenacity and creative instinct.
zenmindbeginner Posted September 17, 2010 Author Posted September 17, 2010 You guys have been too kind with your absolutely on the spot reactions. If any of y'all know anyone who would dig these same type of weird music, please pass it on to them, I'd highly appreciate it. I love you guys and you've all warmed my heart today in a big way. How did you put the video together? The video is a collage of various public domain video clips found on the internets. I basically had a big folder full of a bunch of interesting clips and I went through them meticulously and clipped out the cool stuff that I thought would have a vibe that matched the music. Since you are in a Floyd tribute act, you probably are acquainted with the 60's psychedelic liquid light shows that were performed live during that period. I was going for the same kind of flowing collage of shapes but using iconic images instead. I edit for a living, so the multiple cuts and timing is just a part of what I do. Wedding videos are exhausting and require a great deal of work to look like a fantasy. This video was really a lot of fun to make and didn't take much time. Maybe a total of 30 hours or so spread out between a couple of weeks in my spare time. I am glad that you mentioned swinging for the fences because that is exactly what I did. Most "at bats" don't last fifteen years though. lol! Are you a fan of Killing Joke? +1 on the "are you a fan of Killing Joke" question. I never got into Killing Joke. I've been asked that by many people over the years. I am from Chicago and they have a strong industrial noise movement and I am no doubt influenced by it. I really I take it as a major compliment to be asked about such a great band and if I am influenced by them.
burningyen Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 My band is in the process of assembling our own background videos for our stage show. I'd really appreciate it if you could point me in the direction of the public domain sources you mention. PM would be fine.Again, nice work!
svl Posted September 17, 2010 Posted September 17, 2010 Nice work, man! Definitely hear the Chi-town influence (Chicago boy here as well).Really enjoyed it, and that's sincere. I'm a total no BS dude, if it sucked I would say so, and this was definitely worth the 8 minutes and 27 seconds. Like to hear more....
gorch Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Many thanks that you pointed me to the thread Geoff. I don't know how I could miss it. Since I know the song for a while it wasn't all new to me, but I must say that the video collage not just improves the song. I really had the impression it's been already part of the mp3 version I have on my mobile for so long. It all seems so natural. "Gut Ding will Weile haben!" PS. I took the German saying as the English saying describes the opposite, which would not do it right here.
carfish7 Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 Been trying to watch the entire thing since it was first posted - damn interwebs always let me get half-way or just beyond, but then.......nothing.Anyway, I like what I'm hearing and the imagery is certainly compelling.Any chance you could share the lyrical content with us here?I'll get to the end - determined, I am.Z
LordOfTheThighs Posted September 27, 2010 Posted September 27, 2010 I'm glad I don't drop acid anymore, cause if I had watched that while trippin', my mind would have been BLOWN! Awesome stuff. Don't wait another 15 years to make another. Lets see another by this weekend.
atquinn Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Don't know how I just saw this? Anyway, I thought it was awesome. You are one talented dude Zen! I didn't find it particularly challenging to listen to though; I actually thought it was damn catchy thoughout. That probably says more about my warped musical tastes than your song though. How can I get an mp3/digital version of just the song for my iPod? -Austin
holLoWskull Posted September 28, 2010 Posted September 28, 2010 Very cool song and the video compliments the music perfect. Kudos on a damn fine piece of work.
