cwgatti Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 How easy is this to do? I want to put EMGs in it. How hard is it to install the pickups with the Sustainiac system?
carfish7 Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 How easy is this to do? I want to put EMGs in it. How hard is it to install the pickups with the Sustainiac system? Shouldn't be much harder than the PITA that is the usual installation of the EMG's . The only thing I'm unsure of here is how, exactly, the Sustainiac and the neck pickup share the same space, or maybe you are dropping the Sustainiac from the equation? It seems that the system that Fernandes uses is set up with a single-coil pickup and the "sustain generating thingie" just hanging out side-by-side and taking up a hummer's worth of space. Is the Sustainiac the same or does is it one entire double-coil sized unit? (I forget - I foolishly sold my Sustainiac Chappy to a fellow HFC'er to go play country with) Just a set of pickups, pots, a switch, input jack and now where does that battery go? Goodluck and I'm sure more qualified opinions will arrive shortly.
Jem Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 My first thought would be where the hell are you going to find room to put yet another battery ?
DarrenD Posted May 1, 2011 Posted May 1, 2011 The old GA1 sustainiac systems on the Hamers require two batteries, and the EMGs will require another - so you're looking at three total. You should be able to fit the 3rd in the regular cavity. If you have the dough, the newer sustainiac systems are more efficient and powerful - yet only require one battery instead of two (like the older ones). Also, I recommend the newer rechareable lithium ion 9 volts for these situations. They last around 4-5x longer with one charge.
