JohnnyThunders Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Kick out the Jams and I Want You - MC5
shredmeister Posted September 1, 2011 Posted September 1, 2011 Man you guys are coming up with some wild shit. Kick Out the Jams !!I use to hate that song cause it was all noise to my ears. I don't mind it now.White Punks on Dope ? Ha ! Forgot all about that song after I rolled that large paper in my Cheech and Chong album !
earachemyeye Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 We're goin prog rock here are we? If you guys can play that Tempest tune I'll sing it.

I really liked the 2 or was it 3 chord vamps that Chris, Dave and Funky did last year. It opens it up to a bunch of people getting in and showing their different chops. Maybe we could come up with the vamp ahead of time so folks can practice. This is gonna be fun. The one last year was a 2 chord vamp... Em7 A7. I'll be up for any kind of simple vamp (or simple song), something I can learn when I get up on stage. Yeah I know, I'm lazy. Plus I think it's fun when you just learn/fake it on the spot and see how it goes. It's a jam.
shredmeister Posted September 2, 2011 Posted September 2, 2011 Hey BTMN - Too Hot To Handle Paranoid You Got Another Thing ComingWe play these ones if you are interested. We have played Living After Midnight a million times so we switched to the other tune above. We do Doctor Doctor also, Personally Too Hot To Handle is more fun to play.Just let us know so we can brush up on them before we get out there if you want to do any of these as we have been working on new tunes.3 songs we will have ready hopefully will be Train Kept A Rollin', Don't Tell Me You Love Me, Cowboy Song.
BTMN Posted September 3, 2011 Posted September 3, 2011 "Hey BTMN - Too Hot To Handle Paranoid You Got Another Thing Coming" I would love to sing those three with you gents. White Punks On Dope is singable but I dont know any of the guitar if folks are serious. Crue version is easier in the long run. Be kinda fun for sure. Joe would you like to sing Godzilla and we can get another guitar or two, bass, and drums along. I wouldn't mind doing a lil guitar as mentioned before. I have a friend or two from the Chitown area that are expressing an interest in coming to the jam night. Brian might like to play a lil guitar on that and Rock You Like A Hurricane if we can flesh these out a lil with maybe another great lead player. Jay? Maybe blast into Surrender after those two.

earachemyeye Posted September 7, 2011 Posted September 7, 2011 ......And you should come there and play bass, guitar, drums and um sing too. Come to think of it, none of the other Mpls. crew have uttered a peep. Where is KSFM? How about some of them rock drama songs. That would be cool. I got a feeling.....

If'n anyone wants to do Rock 'n Roll All Nite, Hair of the Dog, Rock You like a Hurricane, or lIving After Midnight, I'm trekking out to Chicago to join in. Be happy to lend some lead and rhythm guitar as well as some backing vocals..... uhh, that is if I'm, well, ya know... welcome and all. I'm still available to sit in any of the above tunes or anything rockin'. I'm no Clapton or SRV but my blues riffing ain't too shabby either. Anyone needing a little fiery lead or tasty fills to go with some solid rhythm capabilities, gimme a shout. Last but not least here's a great idea for a jam tune- a rocked out version of Play That Funky Music White Boy I found in Guitar for the Practicing Musicians Recordings years ago. It featured Hamer player Jeff Watson and Alan Holdsworth. It's a band fave and great for several (3, 4) guitarists to step out and ham it up.
zenmindbeginner Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 Old priest hasn't aged well... The KISS, Nazareth and Scorpions (WAY cool!) sound like cool songs.Every other suggestion I have heard in this thread is pretty crusty I am sorry to say... how about some actual jam songs like Little Wing or Crossroads? Light My Fire would be cool. How about Oye Como Va?You're gonna be in Chicago but can't muster out "I'm a Man"? Not to play "Sweet Home Chicago" would be criminal.What... no Sabbath? An instrumental "War Pigs" with lots of high flying solos.Oh and great minds think alike... "Play That Funky Music" was done at the factory jam years ago, you can see it on youtube with BCR Greg wailing on a TLE.
veatch Posted September 16, 2011 Posted September 16, 2011 OK - so as my last attempt went over like a fart in church, i'll try another approach: I don't care what song(s) i'm playing (prefer rock), so if anyone is interested in me "crashing their party", let me know what songs you'll be playing, and i'd love to join ya. Any takers? Edited to add: Sorry - can't make the festivities this year - hopefully next year...

earachemyeye Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 All of the songs listed by Shredmeister (4 ) are open to as many guitars as we can fit. If you want take a lead break, sing lead, harmony thats cool too. It looks like we've got drums and bass covered. We did this last year and it was a blast. There's more info in the pinned thread. I'm sure they'll be some more tunes thrown together prior to the jam.
veatch Posted September 17, 2011 Posted September 17, 2011 OK - i explained myself poorly (i thought the "fart in church" line was funny, so i was just looking for a reason to use it...) Re-reading my post, i sound like the new kid in school trying to get picked next for the kickball team at recess. I'm saying almost any of the songs listed are fine with me, probably 80% of them were in the set list back in the day - but that was 20 years ago, so i'll need to refresh my aging memory. The rest i've heard enough that they won't a problem to learn. But, as opposed to saying what i'll do and run the risk of being the 13th dude asking to play guitar on Livin' After Midnight, i was offering to play on anything that we simply needed another guitar on. So, if someone needs an extra guitar for a song they want to do, let me know - i'm game. But, i would like to know soon what i'm getting into, as i won't have much more time between now and then to get my shtuff together and (re) learn the songs. Tanx. Edited to add: Sorry - can't make the festivities this year - hopefully next year...

( Not much in the way of a lead in that tune- ) If anyone can confirm that I'm welcome on any of the above, I'll be ready.
tobereeno Posted September 18, 2011 Posted September 18, 2011 Billy Squire? Like Lonely is the Night?I'll be bringing basses as well as guitar, so if we do Sweet Emotion I'm all over that on my Chap 5 string. I can do keyboards if there's one there. Just let me know in advance what you need me to play and I can definitely do it. Looking forward to jamming with all of you!!Murkat, should we drive up together and split the gas?
silentman Posted September 19, 2011 Posted September 19, 2011 There's not nearly enough hair metal on this list. Also Tobe, bring your puffy shirt!
