Hamerhack Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 In the "Hard Day's Night" chord thread, Randy Bachman says he was granted access to the original Beatles source tapes. His choice of that chord was cool.If George Martin's son gave you access to one song or part, what would you want to listen to?
kizanski Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 They rationale for having a loser like Ringo in the band.
hamerhead Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 They rationale for having a loser like Ringo in the band. What's wrong with Ringo?!? Sure, he was doofy and annoying, but he was a hell of a time keeper. Moonie or Bonzo or any of the good drummers wouldn't have fit. His image and ability were perfect for the Beatles.I want to here all the backwards stuff played forward.

I'm just being hard on the guy because .
Turdus Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 Paperback Writer - before the last gang vocal lines of "Paperback Writer", you can hear some breathing, and somebody practicing the upcoming vocal line. I'm curious to know who that was.

kizanski Posted December 16, 2011 Posted December 16, 2011 ...the Beatles most jammin' tune fo shizzle.Agreed!

Hamer Time Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 I never understood why people are so down on Ringo's drumming. They were mostly a vocal band, not a guitar band, or even a rock band. The drums were for keeping time, not playing flash fills. He played what was required, which to me shows more talent than showing off. The Beatles were not the Who, or Zeppelin. A Hard Day's Night with Moon drumming? ROTF!Ringo wasn't doofy and annoying either, he was the most grounded, ego-less, and unaffected of all the Beatles.

And good for comic relief now and again. I recall some footage from when The Beatles hit the US for the first time and some reporter asked John if Ringo was the best drummer in the world. John scoffed and said "He's not even the best drummer in the Beatles!"
kenjones Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Well... I think Ringo's drumming is/was awesome. Perfect fit for the band. One of my favorite Beatles songs is "She Said, She Said". Now that's some pretty wacky drumming.
atquinn Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 To continue the derail, anyone who doesn't hear some great drumming throughout the Beatles catalog isn't listening hard enough. IMO. And I'd love to hear Tomorrow Never Knows.-Austin
kizanski Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 ...anyone who doesn't hear some great drumming throughout the Beatles catalog isn't listening hard enough.Well, you never had to "listen hard" with Moon! LOL*ducking*
atquinn Posted December 17, 2011 Posted December 17, 2011 Well, I'm certainly not saying Moon was bad! But I don't know that I'd want him playing on any of the Beatles songs I love
Turdus Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 There's nothing wrong with Ringo's drumming. Ticket to Ride is the song that comes to mind, when I think of the Beatles. There's a lot going on there, and all the parts sum up perfectly. Ringo changes up the beat in the later verse. Perhaps a mistake, but cool. I've never heard another drummer get it right.
crunchee Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 I'd like to hear anything that's 'lost' (like the original Stereo tracks of 'She Loves You'), or near completed alternate versions; or stuff that supposedly wasn't recorded, like Carl Perkins' jam with them at Abbey Road in '64 or '65. Which reminds me, what about Clapton's recording session on 'While My Guitar Gently Weeps'? Did he just punch in the solo in one take or what? Plus, I'd heard about his solo being put through a Leslie to make it sound more 'Beatle-y'...is there a un-Leslied version?
ArnieZ Posted December 19, 2011 Posted December 19, 2011 Here is the isolated guitar track to "While My Guitar Gently Weeps"http://youtu.be/t2enJ7YJyAIVery tasteful playing within the context of the song JMO of courseArnieZ
