crunchee Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 A very sad day indeed. RIP, Jim. P.S. Quite a lot of achievements for a drummer! Edited to add: I couldn't get onto the Marshall website, apparently I wasn't the only one checking for info! www.marshallamps.com
santellavision Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 If you add up the date of his passing 4-4-12, that's... 11. Coincidence?
lincsman Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Very sad news just heard on the radio RIP Jim I will never forget the factory tour you gave me back in 92
atquinn Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 If you add up the date of his passing 4-4-12, that's... 11. Coincidence? He certainly left his stamp. RIP Jim. - Austin
sirDaniel Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 wow. think about that legacy. Is that cool or what??
Disturber Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 I'll crank my two Marshalls this weekend and play the blues for Jim.
Steve Haynie Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Few people actually change the direction of music. Jim Marshall really did create the sound of rock and roll.
Bass Guy Dave Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 Wow.... wow.... such a loss. A drummer, tinkering with a bass amp creates a Guitarist's heaven. I remember getting a t-shirt signed by him at the 2001 NAMM show. I'm sure it couldn't have been this way for very long, but at that moment in time, he was just standing there pretty much by himself at the booth watching people walk past--no line for singatures or anything. I remember thanking him for the signature and for "everything." lol. He was probably THE most down-to-Earth person of acheivement that I've yet enountered. Just a genuinely nice guy.
MCChris Posted April 5, 2012 Posted April 5, 2012 The Artist 3203 will be coming out at tonight's Rub. The sound of rock'n'roll!
BTMN Posted April 5, 2012 Author Posted April 5, 2012 What an impact Dr. Marshall had on Rock and Roll! Over on the Duncan board, a member by the name of TC commented "He gave rock and roll a wallpaper and background, visually and sonically." total truth to that statement.R.I.P. Loudly!

Just signing things and had this great genuine smile on his face the whole time.I've gotten my best sounds out of Marshalls. Not the most exotic choice, but that crunch is just so musical. I absolutely love the variable circuit designs that Mesa Boogie does, but I just cannot get my sound out of them, and I've tried most of them.In going back to actual amps, I've chosen Marshalls - Haze 40 combo, and 2x10 bass combo. The blend feature on that really works; previous Marshall bass amps weren't so good. And the very best experience I've had with tube dynamics and organic response was with a guitar, cable, and a Bluesbreaker. Utterly musical.
singlehum Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 What a huge contribution he made...and he seemed like such a down-to-earth guy. RIP. I must say I'm a fan...

kenjones Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 My son's middle name is Marshall.I met Jim Marshall at a Dallas guitar show about 10-15 years ago. I told him that I had already been playing guitar for 25 years when one day I FINALLY tried a Marshall half-stack. I strummed an open E chord and thought to myself "So that's where that sound comes from!" Jim smiled at me and said "Yeah, and I bet you wasted a lot of time and money over the years looking for that sound, didn't you?"
peedenmark7 Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 Man time flies...Seems like just yesterday that I picked up my first 2104 combo... R.I.P. Mr. Marshall, and a big thanks for making my playing days a memorabal one.
