burningyen Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 How is he not a knight or at the very least commander at this point?
Disturber Posted April 6, 2012 Posted April 6, 2012 I must say I'm a fan... What are those small combos? Are they the new one watter Ltd series?
yngwie308 Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 Jim died on what would have been Gary Moore's 60th birthday...God Bless Jim, the world is richer for you being here!! yngwie308
tobereeno Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 How is he not a knight or at the very least commander at this point?seriously! Marshall amps drive the sound of a massive portion of rock and roll; some might even say definitively. If that's not a contribution to culture on a macro scale, I don't know what is!
MCChris Posted April 7, 2012 Posted April 7, 2012 "So that's where that sound comes from!"'Tis true. Nothing delivers that upper-midrange crunch like a Marshall.
Jeff R Posted April 8, 2012 Posted April 8, 2012 I don't miss carrying my Bluesbreaker combo but I sure miss playing it. That was a sweet amp.A great friend whose an exceptional, longtime musician and I got into a discussion at his music shop yesterday about Jim Marshall's contributions. We chuckled about the idea that as much as Strats, Teles and LPs have remained true to their roots over decades, arguably the most unchanged piece of musical gear out there - whether Marshall or a manufacturer he influenced - is the 4x12 cab.I met him briefly years ago at a vintage guitar show and he was a genuinely nice guy. Sorry to see him pass.
tobereeno Posted April 16, 2012 Posted April 16, 2012 How is he not a knight or at the very least commander at this point?their website says "Jim Marshall OBE", so I guess at some point he did get his knighthood. And rightly so!
burningyen Posted April 17, 2012 Posted April 17, 2012 Just short of knighthood, but yes, he was at least honored.
