SteveB Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Adam is killing it IMO. He's not Freddy, no, but he has his own thing going on and I'm glad Queen didn't get a Freddy clone and turn themselves into a Freddy Tribute band.
murkat Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 well, we knew this was going to happen.Test run.a few more shows and he will blend in.I will go if in Town or close to
blackfbiv Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I thought they skidded Lambert already?Find it hard to work up much past 'meh' on this guy. Not sure why... just doesn't resonate with me I guess.
SteveB Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 Unfortunately there don't seem to be plans for a worldwide tour yet, just a small selection of shows in Europe so far. I really hope they find a way to bring a tour to the states at some point, although it might be complicated by the fact that Adam just released his own album.
cynic Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 I don't envy Lambert or how big that stage must feel at times. He did an admirable job vocally but this looked like a band with a guest singer. Of course, as Jay pointed out that will become more natural with time.I would probably go see this if given the chance, but only as an opportunity to see/hear Brian May again. That said, after watching these performances I question the point of them doing it at all.If you want a night out enjoying the music of Queen, I saw the "A Different Kind Of Magic" tribute band, and would recommend them over this.
MCChris Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Certainly makes more sense than the pairing with Paul Rodgers IMO.
hamerhead Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Certainly makes more sense than the pairing with Paul Rodgers IMO.I thought that too, until I saw it. Paul Rodgers was incredible.Lambert is just creepy.
cmatthes Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Always loved Queen, but have always hated Lambert. Not disputing he's got the chops - he very well might - but the thought definitely takes them down a few notches in my book. He's no Freddie, but then again, nobody could be.
RichRS6 Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 It's a big pair of pink fluffy mules to fill alright and just because you can get your foot in doesn't mean you're cinderella. But what are you gonna do if you get offered that gig ?He has some balls to take it on given that the majority of Queen fans will probably hate him no matter how good he is.
Disturber Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Don't know who the guy is. But I don't even care to listen. The Queen is long dead. Let her rest.
elduave Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Nothing against Lambert, just not digging what I'm seeing/hearing. Thought that about Queen/Rodgers as well, but in hindsight I wish I'd seen it. I'll stick to a Queen tribute as well, Almost Queen was great a few weeks ago.
gorch Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Lampert presents himself quite femaleish and can hardly walk on his high heeled stompers. I'm impressed on Brian fitness and energy. Also like to hear the old material. They hopefully come to Germany soon. There are quite a few tunes from the Ukraine shows on U2b. I think AL is doing better on them.
BlueRedWhite Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 Hummm maybe i was expecting too much of his performance based on what he did on AI...\No doubt he has the voice..but he needs a LOT of polishing, less froufrou, and own the songs...maybe some more concerts and that will change, but i was more impressed by the AI show....
zzzdat Posted July 13, 2012 Posted July 13, 2012 YUCK!!, Freddy was gay, but not flaming. I can't watch a man prance like that.I saw Queen in 1975 and they killed me. This guy does have a voice, but he'snot at all the guy to front queen.Cool BeansGene
SteveB Posted July 13, 2012 Author Posted July 13, 2012 from Bri:http://www.brianmay....b/brianssb.htmlCopyright Brian May, see link above:Well, I think we all felt the last couple nights in Hammersmith have been a moment of significance. In fact, perhaps especially last night. The band, as it is now, seems suddenly to have switched into a higher gear - more confident, having more fun … and stepping into new territory … an amazing thought at this stage in our lives and in our careers … to be honest, I would never have thought it possible before this journey with Adam Lambert began. Adam has his own style and path, and there was never any intention that he would be 'another Freddie" - but there are many parallels, in the mechanisms which we've already developed - coming together as an organic band. It's very pure - having no extra guitarist means I am back in the old place, as in the Old Days, completely responsible for holding up the 'wall' of sound, but also completely free to control the dynamics and 'feel', working more or less as a four-piece - something which is only possible because Adam is such a strong pivot and front-man. No backing singers - no dancers - it's pure - somehow it feels like Rock ought to be … … dangerous and stimulating. It's completely - real. In this epoch of auto-tune and hard discs on stage, that's pretty rare these days. And everybody seems to be having fun. Including … totally … US! Many thanks to you guys in the Hammersmith audience - no bunch of rockers could be more supportive and inspiring. The view above is something nobody else sees … it's from Pete Malandrone … my intrepid and unflappable Guitar Tech - this is the amazing sight from the Apollo (Odeon) stage - you guys are beautiful !! chewie37 Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Just got back home after seeing the Wednesday & Thursday shows and a little jet lagged at the moment. Will provide a bit more detail over the weekend if anyone is interested/cares. Quick thoughts though - not at all what I was expecting; surprising moments all around; some good as well as some not so good.

zorrow Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Adam Lambert is by times pitchy, which irritates me to the max, but no doubt he still got the vocal chops. I also liked what Brian May wrote, implying they're back to "rocking mode". Let's just hope now they'll get better together over time --at this moment I find what I hear and see "pretty good", but no more than that. PS: BTW, IMHO Lady Gaga would have done a better job in fronting Queen, but I can understand she has her own career going in full-throttle, so Lambert seems to be more convenient for the job. However, I am still allowed to dream, right?

However, I am still allowed to dream, right? Lady Gaga, Born This way Ball Tour, first 31 dates covering Asia and Oceania, gross 67 million. I think she's doing pretty good on her own, but I'd love to see her with Queen. Adam has more actual vocal range though. I'd love to see Gaga/Queen do some new material, but Adam probably handles the back catalog better.

polara Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 He's a talented guy with his own style. Queen were great in their day but they're a nostalgia act for seniors now. He'll do this to broaden his audience a bit, they'll have fun and Lambert may still prove to have some staying power. +1 to liking that he's not just doing a Freddie impersonation.

BlueRedWhite Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 YUCK!!, Freddy was gay, but not flaming. I can't watch a man prance like that.Preach it, brother:Freddie owned the stage, owned the songs, was cocky and ballsy on stage, an ego bigger than Wembley stadium, pretty different from his private person, who was ...well, shy.I get the impression listening to Adam that he didn't rehearse a lot or at least not as much as on AI..sounds like a sloppy job...maybe compare with Arnel Pineda and the job he's doing, or George Michael and his only Queen cover...
MCChris Posted July 14, 2012 Posted July 14, 2012 Freddie owned the stage, owned the songs, was cocky and ballsy on stage, an ego bigger than Wembley stadium...In other words, he was flaming. "Flaming," of course, being derived from the word "flamboyant."Arnel Pineda is no Steve Perry, either. He's better rehearsed because he'd been performing the material in a tribute band for quite a while. And of course Freddie owned the songs. He WROTE the damn songs! The bottom line is that Brian May and Roger Taylor are sharing the stage with Lambert. If he's good enough for them, he's got something going on.
