alantig Posted December 2, 2020 Posted December 2, 2020 Tim Minchin's new CD, "Apart Together", is pretty much a perfect album, IMO. He's best known for his comedic songs, and this is his first studio album. Great turns of phrase, dude is a great pianist, and there are some great pop hooks and choruses here. First single, video is all one shot. And a beauty about resisting temptations. I especially love the line about Pringles and Snickers wrappers, and the one about the devil tempting Jesus. Quote
RobB Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Fairly brutal, 5-song live EP from Germany, 1986. WTF happened to this band? Oh yeah, I remember: Awful, suck-ass singers. Still, hard to deny the, "machina brutilicis" of the Benante/Ian combo. 1 Quote
RobB Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Really great, 14-song set from Perkins Palace, Pasadena, CA. In comparison to, "On Your Feet..." and, "Some Enchanted Evening", the vocals are stronger, better mixing and BOC heavies up, "Burnin' For You", and other mid-career favorites. Buck plays his ass off on, "Roadhouse Blues." 2 Quote
RobB Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 Warner Bros. have done a great job with the VH reissues. This sounds way punchier (drums/bass) than my CD version. Quote
RobB Posted December 4, 2020 Posted December 4, 2020 (edited) Lemmy's first post-Hawkwind release. Despite Lemmy's odd disclaimer (see below), this stands up. Larry Wallis is no Eddie Clarke, but I love the slower, druggier versions of later Motorhead ravers. Edited December 6, 2020 by RobB Quote
RobB Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 My fave Bon-era record. Tight, raw production, it's got the goods. I still get verklempt when I hear, "Gone Shootin'." 5 Quote
RobB Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Where does a newly-unemployed, Deep Purple singer go with his walking papers? To this awesome band. They fell through the cracks, unfortunately. Great debut LP 1 Quote
RobB Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Growing up in SoCal made me never want to hear these Garden Grove boys ever again. I got a reissue, 2xLP of, "Smiley Smile", last year and the ban was lifted. Quote
RobB Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 Early Accept. Like, "Breaker", they're finding their footing between sounding like AC/DC, Scorpions and Judas Priest. Cruncholis Maximus... 1 Quote
RobB Posted December 8, 2020 Posted December 8, 2020 (edited) "I wanna dress like the Stones!" "Nah, forget that. I vote Mott the Hoople." "No way, man. Stooges or nothing." "I've GOT it! We all get matching Shriner's vests. My dad can bring a fez home from the temple for each of us." All kidding aside, another one of my fave bands. Edited December 8, 2020 by RobB Quote

Toadroller Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 My brother pointed me to them last week. A little bit of everything in there. The Cult, Talking Heads, Quiet Riot, The Sweet, Devo, Deep Purple... On 12/4/2020 at 6:14 PM, RobB said: Quote

killerteddybear Posted December 10, 2020 Posted December 10, 2020 ^ If you watch this with the sound off it looks like a promo video for the Darwin Award. 1 Quote
