The Shark Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Robin Guitars is gone, but I picked up a few real gems this week. The Artisan was my favorite model..
G Man Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 Very nice, I am lucky enough to own a Ranger and love it, very well made guitars.
pirateflynn Posted August 11, 2012 Posted August 11, 2012 What are the specs. on those? Did you buy both of them?
The Shark Posted August 11, 2012 Author Posted August 11, 2012 What are the specs. on those? Did you buy both of them?I did buy them both. Here's the catalog. They are great guitars. Kind of like a great Ibanez of the period, but not nearly as heavy!http://robinguitars.com/1985-1.html
bubs_42 Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 I lust for one to pop up at the right time. They never do.
The Shark Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 I lust for one to pop up at the right time. They never do. I've got five. If one comes up for sale or I decide to thin the herd, I'll get to you on it.
The Shark Posted August 12, 2012 Author Posted August 12, 2012 Here's my Houston made Artisan. It's one of the last........
atquinn Posted August 12, 2012 Posted August 12, 2012 Those pickup rings are brilliant. They look cool and they let you go from humbucker to P90 with no routing. -Austin

Bobby Marshall Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Never knew about those. In a Willie interview they said there were only about 150 production models, all imports. The orange artisan and your usa custom both make me weak in the knees.Cool indeed.
Scottcrud Posted August 13, 2012 Posted August 13, 2012 Yup, Robins rule. I have two Raiders that destroy any other bolt on guitar I've ever played. Their necks are exceptional.
humfree Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 never really liked the SG shape....Shoo!I was just about to start a double cut thread..
velorush Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 I really like those, especially the orange one.The black one seems to have a Muy Grande in the bridge - push/pull tone pot?
BCR Greg Posted August 14, 2012 Posted August 14, 2012 never really liked the SG shape....Then why post? How are you helping humanity by telling us something like this?
The Shark Posted August 14, 2012 Author Posted August 14, 2012 Okay, fellas. The Chushin prototype is up for grabs. It's the only one ever made. It was sent sans finish and logo to Dave Wintz at Robin. Dave commissioned Chushin to build the production models. It has the USA logo. It's on eBay.
Rodan Posted August 15, 2012 Posted August 15, 2012 I love both of the Artisan designs pictured in this thread! That has to be an all-time, cake-taking, brilliant combination of 'Paul and SG styles! And the rounded rings on the carved top...(sigh)If you ask me, this design should've secured the fortunes of any guitar company. Sad to see work like this pass into history.
The Shark Posted August 16, 2012 Author Posted August 16, 2012 The black one arrived today. Killer guitar, but the Muy Grande isn't my cup of tea. I'm going with a set of Seymour Antiquities with aged gold covers. They will be here soon.Muy Grande is for sale.
hamer_sunburst Posted August 16, 2012 Posted August 16, 2012 can't go wrong with duncan ants! I have a set in my studio as well...
Ethan Posted August 17, 2012 Posted August 17, 2012 I never really liked SGs either...I LOVED them. Here's what always comes to mind for me when I think Robin guitars:
