David B Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 I know a lot of people hate Kiss on the board, but this is great. Eric Singer on vocals.http://soundcloud.com/umesongs/all-for-the-love-of-rock-roll?utm_campaign=timeline&utm_content=http%3A%2F%2Fsoundcloud.com%2Fumesongs%2Fall-for-the-love-of-rock-roll&utm_medium=facebook&utm_source=soundcloud
RobB Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 That does sound pretty good. A little by-the-numbers, even by KISS standards, but a rocking, catchy track either way.Reminds me of early 70's KISS.
murkat Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 Wow, I listed to the whole dam thing.Rockin.Good for them
serial Posted October 3, 2012 Posted October 3, 2012 That track could easily fit on Rock and Roll Over.
RobB Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I THOUGHT that tune sounded familiar. A friend in HS had a copy of "Live At CBGB's"...shit, I haven't heard that tune since 1978!Still, a good version and I like the arrangement and harmony vocals.
LordOfTheThighs Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I'm liking the song "Long Way Down".I really dig structure of the song. I know what I like, but am having a hard time articulating it. (example :30 - :50 in the song, repeats through the song)To me, the best song I've heard from KISS since some stuff of "Psycho Circus".Long Way Down
FrankieIII Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Paul would've sounded WAY better singing it, so not sure what that's all about. And the guitar tone is so harsh it hurts my ears. Need Paul and Ace!!!
svl Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 God, I loved Robert Gordon. Saw him at a small joint in Chicago for the first time in '79 (I think, or '80). He was a complete badass performer.Agree with Rodip, can't touch the TD version, but still a good rendition.
Turdus Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Tuff Darts... He can't even compete with Robert Gordon hah.. that was the first thing I thought of when I saw the song title... Ram Jam's cover, about a year after the original, is pretty good too: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jNLZT2MCEiU
cmatthes Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I'd actually heard the Ram Jam cover before and thought it was an original...
zorrow Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I don't think KISS is a bad band, but always thought they were overrated. But what do I know? I'm from a post-KISS generation. Can someone here point me to a good compilation of theirs, please? Or maybe some of their outstanding albums? I do want to "get" it!
MCChris Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Honestly, get Revenge. No Ace, Peter or that original chemistry, but easily one of their best efforts IMO.
Steve Haynie Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 KISS Alive! is the album to get to understand what the early days were about. Avoid Double Platinum because of the remixes that some songs were given. Revenge is an excellent album from the Bruce Kulick era.
jisham Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Zorrow, Gene and Paul have put out about 624 "Best Hits" CDs. Or, just go see any show in the past 10 years -- or the next 10 years -- and you'll hear the same crap they've been playing forever.KISS is the reason I'm a musician, as I'm sure they are to many others, but I don't dig what they're doing these days but that's just me. This Eric tune sounds like any other Peter Criss tune, and I'm sure Tommy's tune on the CD (an "ode to the Spaceman character" apparently), will sound just like Ace, the guy Tommy wishes he was. It's just all so contrived IMO.I do agree that REVENGE is a great CD though.
Turdus Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Dressed To Kill is all you need.I'll second that. It is the best of the early records. Listenable, and quite good, from start to finish.
diablo175 Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 KISS Alive! is the album to get to understand what the early days were about.This/\While I was pretty bummed when I found out Alive was not completely "live", it still embodies the energy and the attitude that was the KISS phenomenon. That one album had a more profound effect on my musical interests and direction than any other. It just barely surpassed Jimi Hendrix' Are You Experienced in it's impact and that's saying a LOT.
zorrow Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 I'll get the three of them -"Alive!", "Dressed to Kill" and "Revenge". Let's see how I like KISS then.BTW, I just saw I have "Destroyer" at home. Barely remember it, but I didn't dislike it, if I remember well.
murkat Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Will have to add, for studio (and I am an old Kiss fan)"Hotter Than Hell" has a unique tone, quality to it, my fav studio because of.The tracks were done "different" than any other studio album,Prior to the "Erzin big sound" (Destroyer, etc.).A Unique quality to it, to me, it is raw, rocks, almost experimental with the different tones and techiques used.A far departure from other releases, it is still kiss.Takes a lil to get use to....Parasite just rips. the rif is something to really grasp. Ace just chews it up.
jisham Posted October 4, 2012 Posted October 4, 2012 Parasite is one of the coolest KISS tunes ever IMO.
