serial Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I repeatedly asked for an arch topped double cut with a sustain block, triple coil pickup and Standard(Explorer) headstock. "No. Too obvious" was Jol's only answer. On a positive, that just means that I have one of the only two that they did and that's just fine with me.

serial Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Hell, I tried for years to get another one and was shot down many times. Kiz-I'm surprised you'd and issue with my attitude, since you well know I rarely have such an affliction! ;P (Note emoticon)

serial Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Ha! Unfortunately, without them, my sarcastic chicanery could come across as mean-spirited, which it is not. There-I used "chicanery" as threatened!
MCChris Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I tried for years to get another one and was shot down many times. And there, in a nutshell, is another big reason why Hamer went kaput. Consumers don't accept it when something that was made once won't be made again, seemingly on a whim, even when said consumer is willing to pay for the privilege. They simply take their business elsewhere and put the brand that rebuked them in the archives.
JohnnyB Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 I repeatedly asked for an arch topped double cut with a sustain block, triple coil pickup and Standard(Explorer) headstock. "No. Too obvious" was Jol's only answer. Yeah, because these are hanging in stores and man caves everywhere.
elduave Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Electraglides were approved in the post Jol era.
cmatthes Posted December 23, 2012 Posted December 23, 2012 Yep - and I got caught short sending a kid to college. Ah well!
elduave Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 I didn't mean nothin' by that, BTW.You made the better investment.
srvwannab Posted December 24, 2012 Posted December 24, 2012 Yep - and I got caught short sending a kid to college. Ah well! I've been afflicted by that disease as well...
GC Ron Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 That being said, Carlos has exactly one note, one tone, one schtick. It's the same thing he showed us at Woodstock, pretty much. Even seeing him live, I was bored to death. I watched Buddy Guy mop up the stage with him a few years back at a PRS event. Carlos' playing was frankly lame that night, yet all of the mid-'50s-'70 year old bloozedoctors kept raving about his "woman tone", because that's what they read on the internet and so they needed to compliment that. Sorry, but it was just really damned dull. A 22 year old kid (Davy Knowles) brought fresh energy to things and was riveting that night - far beyond an old guy going through the motions. Yeah, what was up with the stupid two hand over the finger board thing that Carlos did? I was there for the dealer meeting and when they did the sound check with Maggot Brain Carlos stood back and watched Buddy cut his head off. I have video some where.Davy Knowles, my oh my. Cool kid and he let me play his week old single pickup Goldtop custom built McCarty.
GC Ron Posted December 26, 2012 Posted December 26, 2012 FWIW the last pricing on the PRS Santana II was $8400 with a selling price of $5800. Now the current Santana sells for under $3000 with a non 10 top. It has a few feature changes from the original Santana I and II models ( lost the BRW fingerboard and the frets are installed differently) but the overal all look is the same.PRS adapted to what the market would pay where as Jol did not.
BTM Posted December 28, 2012 Posted December 28, 2012 O got this today in my email. Very sad news about our favorite guitarmaker. Thank Wall St. and K st. for another harbinger of economic collapse. Can't make it here anymore. Despondent,JBBTM,You are receiving this because you have registered for The Hamer Fan Club Forums and there is some current news you may be interested in.The Hamer brand of guitars will no longer be produced after the current round of custom orders are complete. It's sad news for those of us who love these guitars but you never really know what the future might hold. The words of the immortal Doctor Seuss seem somewhat appropriate. 'Dont cry because its over, Smile because it happened'. It's a spot on sentiment and we can be content playing and owning some of the best electric guitars ever produced. One thing you can be sure of is that the first and best guitar related forum on the planet is not going away! The HFC is still alive and kicking at http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forumsPLEASE NOTE: We are going to be doing some pruning of our membership however so if you haven't visited in a while make sure you log in and do so in the next 2 weeks so that your user account wont be removed. Thanks for your time and Happy Holidays from all of us at The Hamer Fan Clubsincerely,Ted Martin
