Steve Haynie Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Read the article here. So, the Canadian government will sell a bunch of these to music fans who will never use them. Put me down as one of those fans. Does anyone in Canada want to sell some of these stamps when they come out or make a trade for something?
Ting Ho Dung Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I'm not a stamp collector but aren't you supposed to send them through the mail for them to be of value? Does the postal service even "stamp" the stamps any more? Remember back in the day they would have an ink stamp that marked them used and the origin where it was mailed? I haven't seen anything with a stamp in years.
Ralph Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 They still cancel out the stamps. There are still some of us dinosaurs that actually use our great Postal Service.
cynic Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Does anyone in Canada want to sell some of these stamps when they come out or make a trade for something? You can order them here.
Hbom Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Where I live you have to be dead to get your face on a stamp.I guess the Canucks do it different.Neal Young is over do.
Carl.B Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I just ordered some if your order amount is less than $25 there is a $2.99 charge. Canadian Recording Artists: Souvenir Sheet Rush Stamp
gtone Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 At least our post office has the decency to not issue Nickleback postage stamps (at least so far...). Ya Neil Young is overdue, maybe a few others too. KD Lang eating a beef burger would rock (diehard vegetesbian), maybe Leonard Cohen reading some poetry or whatever you call his schtick...Just saw some John Candy stamps the other day - they were great!
MCChris Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 I guess the Canucks do it different.Clearly. I don't think you can put naked man-ass on a U.S. stamp.
crunchee Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 So, if you use Rush stamps for your mail, will it get there faster?
zorrow Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 So, if you use Rush stamps for your mail, will it get there faster? LOL
cmatthes Posted April 21, 2013 Posted April 21, 2013 Okay...Not for nothin', but Rush and the Guess Who just HAVE to be bigger, more influential bands than the Tragically Hip.I've never even heard of Beau Dommage. How come those bands got bigger stamps?RUSH gets hosed again.
Steve Haynie Posted April 21, 2013 Author Posted April 21, 2013 Maybe Canada has a rule that bands that are only known in Canada must be included.
killerteddybear Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Rush is still going after 38 years. The Hip are still going after 30 years. The Guess Who still have a presence after 50+ years. Beau Dommage played for 6 years in the 70's, reunite for another couple kicks at the cat over the next 15 years. And they all get a stamp? Something stinks here. I can name several Canadian bands that should be stamped - Crowbar, Chilliwack, Saga, Stompin' Tom Connors (not rock but he deserves two stamps!). But not Bryan Adams. The Canadian government has already formally apologized for that. Oh yeah, Neil Young. He's a Canadian. But he is not a Canadian recording artist. Heart would qualify better for that!
Bobby Marshall Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Shouldn't Triumph be on that list? Great Canadian band, eh?
BlueRedWhite Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 what?? no Celine Dion??? I think Gordon Lightfoot should be there too...Ann Murray..they left a few out. Offenbach too...
zorrow Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I guess they included Beau Dommage because they are quebeckers and having at least one French-canadian artist would be politically correct. That's heavy BS, but well... that's how things work here.BTW, if a French artist was mandatory, I would have preferred Offenbach. I know almost nobody here knows them, but they were quite big and they did rock.
Armitage Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I hope the John Candy stamp is a peal and stick... I couldn't lick that one... bleah.
zorrow Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I hope the John Candy stamp is a peal and stick... I couldn't lick that one... bleah. You need one of Avril Lavigne then.
sonic1974 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Okay...Not for nothin', but Rush and the Guess Who just HAVE to be bigger, more influential bands than the Tragically Hip.I've never even heard of Beau Dommage. How come those bands got bigger stamps?RUSH gets hosed again. The Tragically Hip is HUGE in Canada, don't underestimate it. It's true that Rush and the Guess Who could be considered more influential because they're older.....but the Hip are really cultural icons in Canada. They are the one band that most people here agree on (well not everyone of course likes them).
benjammin308 Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 I'm still laughing at "vegetesbian". Not that there's anything wrong with that.
blackfbiv Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 Beau Dommage = quel dommage... IMHOGeez, what about Rene Simard or Patsy Gallant... heck even Andre Philip Gagnon... lol April Wine was from Quebec... As for the Hip... they write the best tunes... I can't stand Downie's voice... he shivers me timbers... but I guess it wouldn't work without him...Hey, what about Saga? Wait they're from Ontario...
cynic Posted April 22, 2013 Posted April 22, 2013 what?? no Celine Dion??? I think Gordon Lightfoot should be there too...Ann Murray..they left a few out. Offenbach too... Gordon Lightfoot and Anne Murray were part of a series released several years ago that also included Paul Anka and Joni Mitchell.
FrettyMcgee Posted April 23, 2013 Posted April 23, 2013 No Headpins stamp? This is a outrage! Also, if Quebec has to be represented - like a little brother that mom forces you to pick for road hockey - its got to be Mitsou.Bye Bye Mon Cowboy, indeed.http://youtu.be/8aI0QTEJjIgThat's right, this happened.....and screw stamps....Rush needs to be on all of our money. Beat it, queen (the old lady, not the band...come to think of it....Brian May on the 5'er?....coool).
