Hey Cool Feel. Thank you so much for the custom order. Sorry it took so long. Every custom Hamer is like a child to us. Whenever they leave, we break a champagne bottle over them and wish them luck. Glad you are happy!

No issues with timing for me - I was told from the get go it would take a while. I think it took 13 months total... Was well worth the wait.

I know that Diablo175 will be super stoked with his Californian, it is seriously cool...

That would explain why mine was all sticky and... oh, that was after I took possession of it. Uhh, never mind.

Diablo is super stoked. Beyond seriously cool. Can't thank the hella-talented crew out in CT and Unca Greg for making this happen. This guitarist's wet dream come true. No shit.

We all hope that we one day once more will have custom orders built by you guys! Great work!

The reason they take so long is that Dave Brown, Gary Pirro and myself (Hamer crew for the past 4-5 years, Dave - block of wood into a masterpiece guitar in raw wood stage, Gary- all finishes, including insane graphics {me sanding in between coats}, me - sand guitar, buff guitar, assemble parts, wire, setup, jam!). Everyday the priority has been Guild production first, then Hamer if we have time. Of course, because of the small Guild workforce, everyday we are jammed with Guild work. Once every three weeks or so, we'll try and sneak 10 - 15 minutes or so on one until somebody says "Hey! What in the fuck do you think your doing! Put down that Hamer and step away from the bench slowly. If you don't do as we say, we'll have to call in backup. Before we get back to work on the Guilds we are instructed to shower first to get the Hamer skank off us so it doesn't get on the Guilds. You know, chocolate in my peanut butter thing. We still have 5-6 custom orders coming through. Look forward to working on them. I'm going to wear fake nose and glasses while wearing a trench coat with nothing on underneath while working on them. Maybe they won't see me. As a side note, I worked at Guild guitars in Westerly, RI from 1983-2002 when they moved and we had a lot of fun. So, that is why they take so long. I hope this helps.

Thanks for the info. One of those still in the shop is mine.

That is a great guitar, and even me, mr. no metal guitars was thinking about that guitar in church... what went wrong with my mind?

Nothing went wrong, your mind just fixated on a powerful stimuli- the image of a kick ass guitar.

Tone Report Diablo, Or This Isn't Real...

Yeah 'cuz the photos aren't enough! ;)

If what JackAss said is true about the p'ups being Duncan Custom/59, it actually is a little less punchy than my BCR Greg modded '89 purple metal flake Cali LE, with a Custom and a HotRails. The Checkered has great resonance unplugged and very good sustain but is just a hair less dynamic than the Barney Sparkle. The '59 sounds great despite being slanted a bit. Was a little concerned that the off kilter position would somehow adversely effect the p'ups classic tone but not so.

A little less responsive on the trem as well. Doing a A/B comparison, the Barney Sparkle has two stock springs vs. the two heavy duty noiseless I put in the Checkered. The Checkered has a tad stiffer tension and is certainly within acceptable parameters but not quite right for a guitar of this cost, wait time, er... caliber.

Rest assured, it is still a killer ax and sounded great in rehearsal last night. Just needs a few more tweaks- a big brass block and maybe a switch back to the stock springs to get the tension just right. It'd mean screwing in the claw arm to almost flush agai9nst the cavity but might be worth it to get that beloved yet elusive, spongy trem play.

Those heavy duty springs suck. The stock ones work better for fluttery fun. I run two with the claw nearly flush at the front of the cavity.

The play of the trem on my BCR modded Barney Sparkle bears this out. So it shall be- two stock springs and the claw arm flush to the cavity! :D

Using your post HSB0531, I'll offer up a blanket thank you to all for the heaping helping of compliments. While I can't take credit for building such an amazing ax, I can take a small level of satisfaction in having come up with the paint design and the specs. Good to know that shit-ton of money I dropped on post secondary art education/training wasn't for naught.

No fair, with one guitar you managed to obtain the coolest Cali and Diablo at the same time.

This Caliablo and the sick red SS alone are ample proof that Hamer designs are worthy of continuing.

It's a gee-tar.

And it's a damn fine gee-tar at that. Congrats!

I thought it was a Diablifornian.

I thought it was a Caliablo?...

Hmm. The only Diablo-esque feature would be the humbucker in the neck pos. Hardly significant enough to warrant being likened to a Diablo. Maybe ya'll should just minimize the Diablo aspect by calling it a Calio. Mostly Califonian with just a hint of Diablo. :D

Did you ever see that Toakai Vivian Campbell Tokai model?

Your Hamer is MUCH MUCH cooler looking, but the discussion of the angled neck humbucker reminded me of this a little bit.
