ptm1diver Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 http://www.ebay.com/itm/111068253718?ssPageName=STRK:MEBOFFX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1427.l2649.I'm looking at the T62 in this ebay add and I made an offer, not the asking price of 1100, but a few hundred less, and the owner has made a counter offer. I think my offer was fair based upon what I could see, and I would like your opinion on the guitar. It does have a matching headstock, but I'm not sure how much that affects the value.I asked for some additional info and the seller had the guitar checked out at a music store. He seems like a decent person. A fresh battery was put in and the electronics work. There is a slight buzz when playing without being plugged in. It only has 5 strings. ( And no, it was not made for Keith Richards) This could and probably is minor, but it may indicate something else.Any advice would be appreciated. I'm going to ask my local Luthier to look at the add later today, but you folks live and breath this stuff, so I value your opinion. How high should I go on this piece, or should I wait for another, or perhaps just save for a Landry Amp or Hamer Special in Korina? Thanks and much appreciated.PaulPS, if one of you outbid me on this guitar and get it, congratulations. It would be nice to see it in the HFC Family.
Lockbody Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 That's Vintage S money, right there. Maybe I'm jaded from the $550-650 years, but personally I wouldn't pay more than $7-800 for it, depending on how much you want it.
Ting Ho Dung Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 He originally had it listed for $900 as only a "vintage" hamer guitar. No one bid on it. Now that he has it listed as a T-62 it's suddenly worth more to him.OP http://www.hamerfanclub.com/forums/topic/59698-psa-what-is-this/Edit: The "rattle" could be from a string saddle out of adjustment.
sixesandsevens Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I've noticed that phenomenon a lot lately, even without update information... an item won't sell, so it gets relisted higher. I guess there are some people who don't shop for the cheapest price, so they figure they can get more attention if it appears to be more of a high end item...Lockbody's right on about many of us having some denial about current pricing. The last several years or so have been a wild ride. I've been holding out for a sub-$500 P90 special, but they're usually going in the $700+ range on eBay right now.But regarding this guitar... I think it's unlikely you'd recoup that money if you went to resell it, but they aren't common at all (I think I've seen three in the last six months and even gave up on a WTB ad I'd placed here), so if you really want one, it might still be worth it to you. That's my $0.02.
carfish7 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Agreed with the above - you might wait a looooong time to find another like it, and who knows how much it will be going for?Only you and your desire for this model can judge what the "right" price is.
Punkavenger Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 If the price is within a hundred or two of your offer then go for it ... why suffer regret over a couple of hundred bucks? A. That is a somewhat rare guitar and T62's are sweetB. If resale value is a major concern buy a Gibson
ptm1diver Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 To everyone,Thank you for the information and advice. I declined the seller's offer. I think he is over priced on this guitar. Do I want it, hell yes. But tomorrow I will see another one and want it.Do I need it, hell no. My family says I have too many already and I keep building some each year. And, I just took delivery on a very sweet custom fbb Korina SG.He may or may not sell the guitar at his asking price or the price he will settle for. If he doesn't receive any acceptable offers, he may try to contact me. I generally do not sell or trade guitars, so resale is not that big of a deal, but, if I had to sell it, I would not want to take a bath on it.And like Paul Harvey used to say, We'll have to wait for the rest of the story.Have a great day.Paul
ptm1diver Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 I just received a Ebay message from the seller. He's will to sell it to me for $850. if I make that offer. However, when I check Ebay, he has a counter offer pending with someone that he previously declined. I didn't think you could solicit and offer when you have one pending on Ebay, but, then again, I'm no expert on Ebay. Here is the seller's email to me.Thank you. If I don't sell it, maybe I will repost at a Buy it Now for $850 and you can purchase it? Or, if you can go to $850 I would sell it to you. Please remember, ebay is going to gouge 10% out of the price AND the shipping!I am in a bind and need the money, or I could wait for a higher price.I have been victimized by predatory lender that are trying to steal my home and land and we are in the final rounds (hopefully), which will include me pressing criminal charges. Because of the time I've had to spend doing my own legal leg work, I've not been able to work. You contribution would be to an excellent cause. I have dug up several cases where these same white collar criminals have done this to several homeowners and I have a meeting with the DA on monday. Just to let you know why I am forced to sell at this time. Thanks again!Never a dull moment.
Disturber Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Go for it! I think I paid about 800 Euros for mine, that would be a little more in dollars I guess. Even if you'd pay 1000 dollars for that one I'd consider it a good deal.My T62 is the best strat I've had yet, and it's a keeper. The price tag from when it was new is still left on mine, on the trem cavity cover, I think it says something like 2100 dollars.
ptm1diver Posted May 10, 2013 Author Posted May 10, 2013 Well, I send another offer and the seller has to decide. What the ...... I can loose this at the tables this weekend when I take my Mother to the casino for Mothers Day.

murkat Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 A. ebay sucksB. you are protected via ebay, paypal, CC for your purchase. If you like it, and terms are met, go for it.It could be a Rose within the brier patch.

bambino68 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 I made an offer to the seller and he asked for $50.00 less than asking as "ITS A RARE HAMER WITH A PAINTED HEADSTOCK"Great color, but seems like it could be a mistake...

cmatthes Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Agreed. Murkat says it best. Any time a seller dumps way too much detail or invokes the fact that they are of a particular faith and therefore should be trusted, I'm out.

crunchee Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 +1 with murkat and cmatthes. Run, Forrest, run! Besides that, strings need changing AND it only has five strings anyway! Um, how would I know if the "buzz" he's talking about, isn't from the saddle that doesn't have the string? Maybe by buying a cheap ass pair of strings, restringing the guitar, and checking it that way? "Personal financial problems" or not, there ain't no excuse in asking for that kind of dough for a guitar and NOT doing that. Sheesh.
rj2858 Posted May 10, 2013 Posted May 10, 2013 Have to laugh every time I see or hear the term "predatory lender".What, a mortgage lender came up to you with a contract and threatened to kill your family if you didn't take out a loan?Dumbass! If you borrowed more than you can repay - your fault. If you don't know how an adjustable rate mortgage works - your fault. Trying to "steal your home and land'? If you're not paying, it's not stealing, no matter what our current government wants to make you believe. If something bad happened to cause you to not be able to pay - that's sad, but don't blame the lender. Also, that's not Seafoam Green, it's Surf Green - hideous either way.
