My winner, hands-down:

I can still remember the first time I heard it. Totally freaked out.

I humbly submit 5 for your consideration...all classics:

Hard Day's Night...Beatles.....just for the iconic ringing G7sus chord

Brown Sugar.....Stones......just nasty and yet a groove

Train Kept a Rollin'...Aerosmith.....I tro right into a rippin' solo over a HEAVY rhythm.

Heartbreaker.....Zep......the riff that sent chills down my spine the first time I heard it.....still does....

Highway To Hell...ACDC....simple , heavy, and it is the hook.....they were never better

Great call on the Hollies tune. First heard it on a K Tel compilation and that's was when I fell in love with the sound of the electric guitar. Kiss turned me on to the sound of a distorted electric guitar.

I had the same reaction as Matthes when I first heard "Mean Street." On vinyl, so the snaps, crackles and pops added to it. Still doesn't have the same effect without them.

I cannot believe nobody has mentioned this one:

Nothing starts a rock song better than a killer, attention-grabbing riff.

And now we'll have dozens of songs from Black Sabbath and Deep Purple comming, right? :)

One from Malmsteen -the entry keyboard-oriented riff is a classic:

PS: And the solos too, no BS!

Not my favorite band by any stretch (I saw them on this tour and they sucked), but this intro was one I'd have to crank and restart. Play loud...

'Mean Streets' was awesome-we got that the day it was released-walked home eight miles from school after stopping at the record store as they were unpacking the shipment.
