I'd give Deep Purple anything just to get them to give up and call it a day.

Out of the ones Carl B. listed, I think they're all deserving. On a personal note, I was never familiar with Peter Gabriel's Genesis career. But his solo work never

did anything for me.

Hall & Oats mark on pop music is huge.

The Zombies are interesting a 6 degrees kinda way. How Rod Argent left to form Argent. Teamed up with Russ Ballard, who left Argent, and wrote a number pretty big songs, for other artists.

Notably in the RARHOF inductees circle, Ballard wrote Ace Frehley's cover of New York Groove.

I dunno, it seems that within 20 years, everybody who has sold +1,000 albums will eventually be inducted.

I hate Nirvana but they are deserving for the cosmic shift they created.

Their creating said shift was only the national perception. Locally, that really wasn't the case.

always thought the r&r hof is more remarkable for who isn't in it than who is in it.

Am I the only one that would pick Paul Butterfield first?

Am I the only one that would pick Paul Butterfield first?

Nope!

I just looked at the list and said; "Butter, Purple, Hall & Oates, Linda & Link". Butterfield would be my pick if I could only take one.

I put in my 5 votes but here's my prediction.

Definitely in:

Nirvana (no, I didn't vote for 'em)

Linda Ronstadt (sentimental fave)

Either LL Cool J or NWA (they seem to always want to show their "hipness" by putting one hip hop/rap act in)

The rest is a tossup. I'm not a real Kiss fan, but since influence is one of the criteria I don't see how they could miss. Everybody I know or play music with raves about Deep Purple, but to me their best album was Perfect Strangers so that shows how little I know! I wouldn't mind seeing either of those in because at least they are truly "rock".

Sorry, but.....WHO is Link Wray?

The only no-brainer for me was Nirvana, and perhaps Hall/Oats and Gabriel.

Link Wray was doing heavy guitar back in the 50's. He was not the greatest player, but if he had Marshall stacks and a fuzz pedal in 1958 you would have had Metallica type music by 1968.

I just hope by the time they nominate Miley Cyrus and Justin Bieber.I'm too senile to care.

Send a prayer to, by the time, not being in heaven to have to watch this. ;)

Sorry, but.....WHO is Link Wray?

really?

OMG.

and confrimation of...

Has there ever been a better example of "rock and roll attitude?" From the song itself to the movie it was featured in? Just about the most threatening sound people had heard way back in the 50s.

I can't help myself----Plug me into an amp with GOOD tremolo and just start progressively cranking the intensity on Rumble.

PS....I love the video clip, but the raw power of the original recording is stunning.

I dig the induction ceremony with the speeches and jams, but the building itself, in Cleveland, was largely a let down. The "hall" itself is a joke. Plaques? Please. The FYE was almost the most impressive thing there.

I wonder how I would have felt about it had I not come directly from Rick's Picks in Rockford, which was the most moving museum/display experience I'd ever seen. And we have some good museums 'round here.

How can Deep Purple not be voted in. It's the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame. Not the hip hop top forty hall of fame. If they want all the other acts they need to change the name to music hall of fame. Total bullshit if you ask me.

They don't need to do anything. Whoever created the institution can call t whatever they want. On the other hand, people need to realize that the name represents something other than just a genre. They also need to remember that RnR was derived from the predominantly black music forms blues and jazz, and that Chuck Berry and Little Richard were its earliest practitioners.
