FrankieIII Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 In lieu of the old "Hammer Explorer." ...LOL...http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/17462/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Benchmark-Limited-Edition-58-Figured-Explorer-Electric-Guitar-Washed-Cherry/
cynic Posted November 23, 2013 Posted November 23, 2013 Did you know that your posts look very girlie on portable devices?
Bobby Marshall Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 They put the neck strap button in the wrong place but the rest looks right. Wonder how many will sell.
RobB Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 They put the neck strap button in the wrong place but the rest looks right. Button placement is the same on my Navigator Explorer copy, as it is on all Gibson Explorers. I thought I might need to move the button on the ESP, but it hangs fine on a strap, kinda like a big LP.
rj2858 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Well, like someone said some time back in another post about these, why not make them, now that Hamer isn't?
BTMN Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Oh my. This is nice in the same vein.http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/17463/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Benchmark-Limited-Edition-Figured-Flying-V-Electric-Guitar-Natural/

This is nice in the same vein.http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/17463/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Benchmark-Limited-Edition-Figured-Flying-V-Electric-Guitar-Natural/Now, THAT is a fine-looking V. Not too crazy about the LP-style knob arrangement, which looks cluttered and doesn't flatter the lines of the guitar, IMO. Props to the placement of the pickup switch, though.$4k, though...it would REALLY hurt when that first flying beer bottle at "Bob's Country Bunker" rebounded off the top horn.Just sayin'.
The Shark Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 I don't know, but Gibson appears to be trying really hard to sell me a guitar.

This is nice in the same vein. http://www.themusiczoo.com/product/17463/Gibson-Custom-Shop-Benchmark-Limited-Edition-Figured-Flying-V-Electric-Guitar-Natural/ I owned this one for a while.......the knob config wound up being the reason I sold it... I might, however, have to have an Explorer.

Yes, I figgered that, Bobby. I reckon if it was a proper replica, it truly would have the button location in the right spot. No worries!
gorch Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 It looks pretty much loose for the price. Any Hamer top was nicer. It seems someone discovered room in the market as they come out with sunbursts now. Had these versions been available before?
bubs_42 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 IMHO for 4k those tops are rather boring. LOL at least we are on the same page Gorch
dobieboy Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 They sure waited long enough to see the demand for these...what, almost 40 years..now THAT's smart !
oldskoolrulz Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 wildwood guitars has several of the bench mark '58 explorers and a couple of V's alsohttp://www.wildwoodguitars.com/electrics/gibson_custom_shop/2013_limited_run.htm
bubs_42 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Well bravo to Wildwood's, those are stellar looking.
carfish7 Posted November 24, 2013 Posted November 24, 2013 Those DO look nice. Kudos to those who have the means to acquire one.Have the Gibby's always had that neck joint shape, or was that lifted from the Hamer version? All squared-off like that? I always recalled the Explorers having a "stepped" joint there.
Morris Davis Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I got one of the Vs. Really nice guitar, extremely lightweight, very loud wood! A photo of mine is attached. I get compliments on this guitar when I play out. I paid much less than MAP - strikes me that it was probably ballpark to what a new Hamer would have cost when there were still new Hamers. Only complaint, the pickups are unpotted ... the neck pickup squealed. New WCRs fixed that.
RobB Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 I got one of the Vs. Really nice guitar, extremely lightweight, very loud wood! Morris, that is a seriously rad guitar. Control-config be damned; I'm sure I could "force" myself to adapt to the four knobs. Seriously, nice. Gibsons suck, right?
Morris Davis Posted November 25, 2013 Posted November 25, 2013 Seriously, nice. Gibsons suck, right? It's hard to stomach playing it, but somehow I carry on
