cynic Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Just a quickie before I get back to the stuff I NEED to be doing. Brown just dropped this off for me, after our new member GTR1 and I worked out the deal
BlueRedWhite Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 Congratulations! That cali is out of this world beautiful...the boomerangs on that model are called "alien ships" Enjoy a fine guitar!!
diablo175 Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 I'm now due for a change in undergarments and it doesn't even have a reverse headstock... sheeesh.Dibs?

Bobby Marshall Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 That is amazing. Been wanting to try a Californian. That would have been IT. How's she feel?
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 5, 2014 Posted April 5, 2014 Dude your on fire lately. Congrats! Wait till next week Now I don't feel so bad about stealing those two guitars from you.
cynic Posted April 5, 2014 Author Posted April 5, 2014 How's she feel?Won't really know until Monday. Barely got to strum it a few times this afternoon and the weekend is pretty booked.
Tres Aardvarks Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Nice! I'm curious to hear your take on the OBLs. My LE has them and I don't care for them. They're ok, but the Trembuckers in my flame maple Cali sound much better.
Brooks Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 didn't that belong to long-ago-banned-from-HFC spidey / joe?!?
sixesandsevens Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 How's she feel? Won't really know until Monday. Barely got to strum it a few times this afternoon and the weekend is pretty booked. So how was Monday?
Nathan of Brainfertilizer Fame Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Please, please, please promise this won't be your Japan flag Cali...

They're ok, but the Trembuckers in my flame maple Cali sound much better.I'm of the reverse opinion-The OBL's in my old Iridescent LE were monsters for heavier tunings- e.g. D# standard with 10- 52 strings. Used it for a lot of cover tunes that either were played on 7 string or used drop D tuning. Nice low-end crunch with plenty of clarity and definition. Sounded awesome. The PATB's and I never got along- they sounded too bright and trebl-y. I know now that a lot of that was attributable to the amp/ amp settings I was using at the time. I am surprised to hear they sound good in the bright-ish maple bodied, ebony boarded Cali. I'd have thought that would've been a treble-fest.I'd like to try another set of PATB's using my current set up.

I'd have thought that would've been a treble-fest. I'd like to try another set of PATB's using my current set up. I would have too. It is certainly more trebley than the OBL equipped LE, but that's part of what I liked! I A-B'd at guitar night a couple times, and the OBLs sounded dull compared to the PATBs. I should note that I wasn't playing heavy stuff, it was more pop, country, and rock. Years ago (when about all I played was metal) I might have preferred the OBLs. Both my guitar buddies said they couldn't even hear a difference and that the OBLs sounded just fine. Of course, they also didn't have the amp pointed at their heads
diablo175 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 I can definitely imagine how the PATB's would sound brighter than OBL's especially for pop, country and rock stuff. I'm reasonably sure that the gain-drenched settings I was using the OBL's with gave them a little more punch than usual. Still, the OBL's kinda fell flat for solo's. When I sold the IriCali LE, I went to my Godzilla Cali with EMG 81/SA-1's for the heavier stuff. The EMG's were perfect for the heavy crunch but had some serious punch for solos as well.
diablo175 Posted April 8, 2014 Posted April 8, 2014 Please, please, please promise this won't be your Japan flag Cali... Cynic, normally I tell you to ignore Nathan but in this case, I agree - that O'Conner finish is unique. Not too many of them, either I'm guessing,

Don't worry, the finish on this one is staying as is
