dgstandard Posted June 21, 2014 Posted June 21, 2014 Would you put a pickguard on a custom Standard order? That's the debate I'm having here - need some help!
BTMN Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Only if it is clear and you HAVE to have it. None for me though on any version.
bubs_42 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 WTF is wrong with you man! NOEdited to add: That was not aimed at you Gene.
BTMN Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Dude, everything is wrong with me. So Wrong, it's Right. Wanna buy a Vector? All hog, no pickguard.
The Shark Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Not for me, but the vintage Gibby pickguard doesn't cause me any heartburn.
HSB0531 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Option 7. NO! They suck on any standard! - Austin Hey, Austin stole my option
zorrow Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 If it has body binding, big NO.On the other hand, for an all-natural or a solid color with no binding, it wouldn't look bad.
gorch Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Generally unnecessary. On the other hand under certain conditions it might look nice.
RichRS6 Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 It's a no from me.I don't mind the guard on the unbound natural Gibsons and Ibanez but not on a custom order.
DaveL Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 On mahogany it's ok, but on maple no... when it comes time to sell (I get the I'll never sellit thing but things change) you'll have paid for an uprade that results in a smaller pool ofinterested buyers down the road.
Hamerica Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 The word is no.Agreed. Spread the word. The word is NO. NADA. NOPE. NEIN. Help spreading the word here. The only caveat for me is If they came that way from the factory - I leave them on (Korina comes to mind.)Hamerica
dgstandard Posted June 22, 2014 Author Posted June 22, 2014 OK - thanks guys!I like black pickguards on mahoghany. I am split on opaque (I agree with zorow's comment 100%). I would never add one on a maple cap.

BTMN Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Wonder how many of these Shiskov worked on.... Shorty came with a White pickguard but I will put up with the visible screw holes just to look at all this Korina.Same goes with Hamerica, my '96 Korina Standard. Now, MahStnd 3 has a shadow of the pickguard under it, so taking it off is not an option although I wish it was. The Cream 'guard replacement by the previous owner makes it very cool and differant so no arguement in the end.Brownie needs no pickguard either...Nude Standard Sunbathing Allowed. Life IS Good!
cmatthes Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 Every word means NO!!http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AvuetnVoxIs
Feynman Posted June 22, 2014 Posted June 22, 2014 I like the pickguards. It depends. Look into your heart.
