Ebay and $9,000 Hamer

Are these collectable Hamer's fairly easy to resale? I doubt this is going to double in price in the next 10 years, and assuming it would be for someone's collection, and that it sounds and plays like the typical $3000 Standard.

What's the highest priced non artist associated Hamer that you've seen? Is there a Holy Grail? Like with the original Gibson Explorer and Flying V guitars? I personally do not know what the low serial # 70's Hamer's go for. Sure it's a lot.

Hamer was a bad ass mutha of a company back in the day :)

His asking price is close to double what that guitar should sell for, but then again, it also isn't a 1980 model - it's later (from 1982). Those guitars DO fetch well more than $3k in nice shape, and the '70s models sell for WAY more than anything from the '80s.

That's what I thought, that the early model's from the 70's are the treasure. I personally would have a hard time convincing my buddies how rare this one is, at least for $9,000. But that is Hamer's most bad ass guitar imo, I certainly would love to have one, and it sounds like a $3000+ guitar no doubt.

Is it me or is there really a crack at the first tuner (back of headstock)?

Zoomed it looks like it leads down the side too.

Hamers deserve to have a higher value. B)

As a new HFC member and a late-arriving Hamer fan, I find it ironic that they appear to be receiving the higher appraisal... outside of HFC.

The 'higher' appraisal seems to occur mostly with sellers outside of the HFC who are trying to unload, especially dealers. Hamer Standards are far from being the only guitar brand/model where sellers ask (excessively) big bucks for them on the used market, IMO. <_<

Well, they aren't making them like this anymore.

I agree the price is more than double what it's worth (with a dot neck and no binding) but they are seriously undervalued IMO when you consider what people seem to think their VOS production line, re-issue slapped together Gibsons are worth.

At $4000 there might be a chance $10,000 forget it.

As the seller is looking for offers it's more likely he's hoping for a higher offer than he would get if anyone wants to bid on it.

It might be for a relist with the correct date.

ouch I should of did more homework and came around here BEFORE pulling the trigger

Good news

1. I always wanted a 4 digit flametop and I always seem to miss them when they pop up

2. I really think this ones pretty cool and it plays and sounds great

3. I value them a lot higher than folks here so if you guys ever off load let me know..I'm buying

Bad

1. it looks like I overpaid....wow see few posts suggesting $4k...I wish and will gladly buy yours for $4k

2. non-original case

3. small lacquer crack around tuner (does not appear to be deep)

4. Not 1980 rather 1982

Anyway a pic next to my main gigger (in recent times) btw the neck on the Gibby is a baseball bat...Hamer really similar to a Charvel

This guitar should sell for well above $4k. Dot Standards are in the $5k plus range depending on finish, serial number, etc (assuming that they're all original). Four digit Standards haven't been $3000 guitars in more than a decade. Today? Only if it's been Kahlered or butchered.

Speaking of original, I've got an original four digit case for sale if you're looking...;)

I am selling if you are interested in buying 4 digit standards.

Nice pairing! If you like that Gibber, and I can tell you do, I suggest a '96 or '97 Mahogany Standard like the one in the F/S section now. You will LOVE it! A '96 Korina Standard might light your fire too.

BTW, Welcome to the HFC and be sure to post a proper NGD thread if you feel inclined.

Welcome.

It's a beauty alright.

Not sure what you paid but a guitars value is down to many things and the main one is how bad a buyer wants the guitar.

I have paid more for certain guitars than their"market value" because I don't like spending months searching high and low for the right one to appear at the right price (and I have some disposable income burning a hole in my pocket at the moment).

If I added up the hours I've spent searching for a "bargain" then worked out an hourly rate for that wasted time it's just simpler, faster and better value to pay a little more and have what you want when you want it.

With a top as nice as that if you ever want to move it on it shouldn't be too hard to get back most of what you paid.

ETA. $4000 would be a lowball offer for this guitar, we're real tightwads here, you'll learn....

Good 4 Digits up to 1979 (ish) with crowns and binding (B&C) are the real "Grail guitars" as they really weren't making many at that time so they're harder to find are $5500+ (probably more these days) depending on condition/originality and how nice the top is/colour.

There seems to be a drop in value as the production numbers increased after 1980 dot necks somewhere below this but again depends on the eye of the beholder.

There's a book all about Hamer written by one of our own which is well worth buying. ;)

That is a great looking 4-digit. They are sought after, and rightfully so. What ever you paid for it you'll get back a couple of years down the road.

The 4-digits were perhaps the best guitars made in the 1970's, and the quality was as high in the early 80's. Can't put a price on that feeling.

Congrats! Can't own to many 4-digits.
