I think I may sell my Standard and Tally.  I find I'm growing less and less enthused about having so much money sitting in guitars.  I think I may be able to live in a world where I have only one truly top shelf guitar and others that I am into for less than $1k.

Michael_B, you always bring something special to the HFC.  Thank you.

Thanks.  Sometimes, I wonder.

That sounds like what's left of my guitar stash since The Great Recession first hit...which has been...damn, for about 10 years.    I've thought about selling off my bought-new-in-Japan '96 Hamer RN Signature Standard Custom before, but I stop myself every time.  Standards aren't all that plentiful OR available, possibly less so than a Tally, depending on if either one's (or both) got custom features or not.

On a lighter note, here's a story about Torture By Earworm...I think I might try this someday, next time I find a busy place with a juke box (not necessarily with What's New Pussycat or a Tom Jones song, BTW), but I don't think I'll stick around for the whole thing:   ;)

The older I get the more I realize that I don't need more than 50 watts of output power on my amp to completely bury any drummer I've ever played with, and I couldn't be heard over most bass players if I had 500 watts.

If the mudflap girl farts, will it damage a lacquer finish?  What about poly?

Mine's korina, so that would be a bear.   I'd probably let the Tally go before the Standard.  I still play the Standard pretty often.  The Tally doesn't see fresh air very much anymore.  It's a great guitar, but as I approach 40, I find I really just want to go back to my roots and play hard rock and southern metal.  It's not that you couldn't do that with a Tally, but other guitars more naturally do that to me.

One might come to the conclusion that with higher age the ear becomes more sensitive.

How come my skinniest string wallows around in a huge nut slot and my biggest one won't even go into the notch?

I know it is days later and I can not be sure this isn't a funny posting. If it is a real question then I would say that guitar was strung and made for a lefty or you are a lefty playing a right handed guitar. Or some fool like me had a Lefty guitar made Righty just cause.

I got that Z cheap because of finish issues. I was going for the Gibber Reverse Explorer they were doing about that time in 2013. Fun guitar that plays and sounds pretty fair for an import. That Lefty ML would look amoeba like at that angle no doubt.B)

ETA: Z was HFC priced at Tree-Fiddy all bought and swapped to this configuration.

With the direction of guitars set by PRS and expanded/extended by Carvin (now Kiesel), how soon are we going to start seeing guitarists killed by OB (overbling)?

In the absence of jaw dropping skill, I'll happily settle for heartfelt creative output.

That bitter pill was the most freeing one I ever took.

Yup. Pressure's off.

I'm too hard headed to let it go completely.  Got musical ideas in my head that need to come out and are contingent on a certain level of skill. While I accept there are limitations, I just choose to ignore them most of the time, As a result, I wrestle with frustration when my abilities don't pony up the goods. But... for the most part I break even and every once in a long while I have brief but significant break-throughs.

Playing stuff that doesn't challenge my musical abilities and/or push me to expand them, just doesn't appeal to me at all.

I love Tom Jones and Hohn Mulaney. Last year on a good for Valentine's my wife and I went to a location that was doing the full table service Valentine meal there was a table of college guys and one of them got up to use the jukebox. The first song he played was What's New Pussycat so my wife and I have each other a look wondering if he had done it, he didn't. I considered for a minute walking over to his table, saying "watch this", and then feeding the jukebox ten bucks full of Pussycat  and then one It's Not Unusual before going back to Pussycat.

I can no longer trust my judgement on pickups. In truth, I'm starting to think I never should have. What sounded good yesterday sounds harsh today. What was grating a few years ago sounds crisp now. So on and so forth.

Time to give up on buying guitars and instead just buy a shit ton of different p'ups? :P
