On a whim, I decided to listen to some currated pop music playlist on Spotify.  I suddenly realized that my friend's daughter (who's a great vocalist) is copping the popular singing style.  For the past two years, I thought the kid had a fairly unusual tonality.  Not only is it not unusual, but it is seems to be drearily ubiquitous.  I need to get out more.

Well, my friends have been raising their kids on heavy metal.

My neighbors listen to heavy metal late into the night... whether they like it or not...

If I could bottle and sell whatever it is that puts me "in the zone" while playing guitar, I'd be a millionaire-  either by selling that shit to every bedroom guitar god in waiting  or hording it to myself and becoming the internet's next bedroom guitar god.

All BS aside, I really would love to know what unfathomable combination of variables make for those all-too-infrequent and fleeting moments when I get in the zone and tear shit up that I couldn't even hope to hit any other time.

"I will not worry about pulling tubes to troubleshoot this amp tonight.  I am just going to watch this movie.  I will not mess with the amp.  Just the movie."

Five minutes later and tubes are everywhere.

I'm not going to baffle anyone with my playing prowess.  But sometimes I'm just in the groove and playing well above my pay grade.  I think it has more to do with feeling comfortable in my surroundings and having a good mix both in the mains and on stage.  It doesn't happen often because we only play a few times a year in front of a crowd.  The first time I played in our church was one of those moments.

I want to learn the entire Pornagraffiti album note-for-note.

I'll fail, of course, but I think trying will be fun.

WOW! You'll have to tell me how that goes. If you succeed, I'll stop down for some help learning a few of the tunes...

I might have a chance to get most of the rhythms and fills down. But I'm not much of a soloist, so...

A man's gotta know his limitations.

And then break through them if he can, but he's gotta know them first.

Yeah, I've got the book. Had it for a few years.

I've picked it up before and gotten some good progress on it, but never *learned* the songs.  Definitely doable. It either sounds harder than it is, or his style of riffing fits my abilities better?

Dunno, but I will have the songs learned well enough to play rhythm within about 6 months or so.  The solos, tho... No promises.

I think there's more to it than that but it's a good place to start- the Japanese allude to it in their concept of Mushin or "no mind".

Did it have thanksgiving in the US already? I have missed the Native Instruments thanksgiving 50% off sales promotion so far. As I'm receiving their newsletters I'm sure haven't overseen it. It would have been an occasion to spend money into bits and bytes of  sample libraries that I'm probably never going to use as much as they are worth. Just like my guitars and amps. I'm jonesing for a great string ensemble library actually.

I'm changing Thanksgiving to Ax-getting. This is right around the time I typically go off the GAS rails on a crazy buying train.

The two Standards/Explorers this  year just fueled GAS again for a another custom built. I'm dreaming Seasick Steve related for a while. Three strings may be enough.

Isn't it funny how guitars in the stable can fall in and out of favor and yet, nothing changes about them? One day, you barely even see it sitting there on the rack next to all the others, and the next day, it calls to you to be played and rewards your prudent selection with incredible performance. And you swear you'll be back the next day (or that afternoon, evening etc.)  but when you do return, you pick it up and meh. But wait, there's that one over there that seems to be calling to you...

Guitars sure are temperamental and fickle.

Apparently, my attempt at humor has fallen flat. The appropriate emoji has been added to clarify my intent.
