EDIT: New pics on the last page

Just bought this.

All I can do now is wait.

It definitely needs new pickups and some pots`n knobs, otherwise its supposed to be original and in very good condition.

I assume the knowledge on Hamer cases is astonishingly high here so if anyone can chime in on the subject I would be grateful.

Photos from the seller.

Looks like a '78 Sunburst to me and I believe blue lined cases were available. The experts will chime in for sure. Needs some correct pickups and knobs but what a BEAUTIFUL top!! Nice buy!

If those are original era X2Ns they might be pretty cool althought neck X2ns tend to be very muddy to my untrained ears. Still worth something good on the resell market. ^_^

Nice looking Sunburst! What year? B)

Yes,It's a '78. I assume it won't be easy finding original pickups for this. Options on replacements as close soundwise to the original Dimarzios as possible is welcomed. I also want to Get the wiring done as close as possible to the original so If anyone has pics of the control cavity I would appreciate that.

I hear raves on the 36ths but I thought they were horrible in my 78. They didn't last 2 days before I went to something else. You can find Era correct Dimarzio's on ebay you just need a little time and knowledge on what to look for.

I've found that a DiMarzio Virtual PAF is an excellent replacement for the bridge pickup. A regular DiMarzio PAF in the neck is a good match and that combo is very close to the original spec.

If you like lower mids in your pickups, I'd suggest EJ Customs or Godwoods. I am mostly a bridge pup person though.

That said, I am blown away by the stock pickups in my recently acquired 1980 Sunburst (thanks BadgerDave!).

OH HELL THAT SUCKS.

I feel for you - that's every guitar owner's greatest shipping fear nightmare realized right there.

The good side (if there is one) you have a couple of extremely capable HFC members who should be able to pretty much make that disappear. That bad boy needs to go straight over to BCR Greg for his magical neck/headstock repair work.

Well keep our fingers crossed - keep us posted.

That is a damn shame. It simply sucks. ....BJ is right, send it to Murkat or BCR Greg for a fix. I feel for you.

Might cost too much to ship over for the fix...

Bummer bigtime!

Case is correct for a. 77/78.

Bollox.

My first thought would be that it was busted before the sale so I'd want to check what date the pictures you received were taken on.

Thats just because I'm a suspicious motherfucker as I don't know where it came from, no malice intended.

It sucks massively, either way, I hope it was well insured and the packing was sufficient for the journey.

I will echo the others here saying Jay or Greg are the 2 people I would send this to regardless of the cost to ship it as their work is unbelieveable.

It was not busted before shipping. I know the seller, has done a couple of good buys from him earlier. He also has dated pics taken right before shipping.

From what I`ve seen on MLP and here on HFC I know Greg is the man. Problem is, I`m in Norway so we`re talking at least $300 in shipping t/r and let`s not forget all the hassle with the customs. Have to search for the right repair guy here in Norway.

Out of curiosity, was all that white paper waded up tightly beneath the headstock?

I've received a couple guitars where I felt quite lucky there wasn't damage resulting from over-packing in that area.

Since this is a USA guitar, you shouldn't have any issues getting it through USA customs....having seen Greg's repair work in-person, he can make that 'disappear'.
