mc2 Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 At least this time he's wearing pants...THAT reminds me of a funny story.....Back when I was the editor of one of the big music trade magazines, I was on deadline for a Nashville Summer NAMM issue. The first NAMM in Nashville. So, I decided to shoot a new headshot for my editorial in the issue....wearing a cowboy hat and holding a horsehead pogo stick.So....I get up at 5:30 a.m. To shoot it quick before heading into the magazine office. I roll down my backdrop and set up my camera on the tripod and do a self-timer selfie. I shoot a short roll, unload the film, grab a shower and drive the 90 minutes into work thru traffic.I stop at the custom film lab a few blocks away and tell them, "Need these ASAP."The lab calls me around an hour later to say the film is ready. I shoot over and pick it up. They are polite but a little odder than usual.I shoot back to the office and open up the photos at my desk to pick one out for the art department, as they are already screaming as I am past deadline.I'm still dragging from just having a few hours of sleep. As I open the envelope of prints, my mouth drops in shock....then I bust out laughing, so loud that my assistant editor yells over his cubicle, "What's so funny?"In my haste to shoot the head shot while half asleep, I didn't realize I only had thrown on a music related T-shirt, cowboy hat and grabbed the dopey horsehead pogo stick.....I was completely naked from the waist down and had shot all the photos wide, since they were selfies and I didn't want to chance cropping my head off. But it turned out they were pretty much full length shots...butt naked below the belt. After the initial shock, it was pretty funny.Even funnier was that no one at the photo lab said anything after developing and printing them on a rush order. It would have been odd enough if I gave them naked shots but in all of them I had the stupid cowboy hat on and was holding the horse head pogo stick....looking like Brett Michaels but with real hair. To top it off, the t-shirt I had chosen was printed with a slogan that I thought was fitting for a Nashville NAMM Show...."We Came, We Saw, We Left."For any of you old record collector guys, you should recognize that slogan. Right in the middle of it, it had the record label name....."STIFF RECORDS"....making the entire naked goof even funnier. And yes, I cropped the headshot before sending it up to the girls in the art department.
Steve Haynie Posted September 17, 2014 Posted September 17, 2014 Putting on pants after taking the photos should have been a clue something was wrong.
