elduave Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I received a boatload of swag from UFO's Vinnie Moore who just bought that EchoTone. As a PSA to UFO fans I suggest you step away from the keyboard, blaze a path to Tower Records and pick up the Showtime DVD. It's 2 discs, one a show in Germany which is real nice, with "making of" stuff as well. DVD #2 is the BOMB! 6 tracks (video) recorded at a studio in Germany, 3 with strings & 3 without. Pack It Up And Go, Try Me (!!!), Love To Love (I never get tired of this song, unlike some other UFO tunes they play *every* show), Slipping Away, Cherry (!!) and Profession Of Violence (!). It's friggin' great. Also on Disc 2 is another "making of", 2 different doccumentaries (great), and the best part, interviews with the band covering the history of UFO. This stuff is repeatedly LAUGH OUT LOUD funny. The band (especially Phil) is hilarious, self-effacing, and just a joy to listen to! This is a MUST HAVE for fans of the band!
Turdus Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 Dave -- back in '79 I had the pleasure of seeing AC/DC (with Bon Scott) open for UFO. The only thing that would have made that night more complete was if Schenker had been on the tour. Paul Chapman was there. Don't get me wrong... Paul did a great job.... but for me, UFO will always be Mogg/Way/Schenker/Parker & I'll even include Raymond.Does the DVD include anything from the classic lineup?
LordOfTheThighs Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 back in '79 I had the pleasure of seeing AC/DC (with Bon Scott) open for UFO.I have a short list of bands that never got to see, when I had an opportunity to, and AC/DC with Bon Scott is probably at thetop of that list. I've see AC/DC about 7 or 8 times with Johnson, butnever seeing Bon Scott perform is one of my "I'm kicking my own ass"moments.

No, the DVD only includes the German concert with the new line up and a live studio session again with the new line-up. Ironically, this line-up has changed already as Andy Parker is back as Jason Bonham decided to leave (which is too bad because Bonham is awesome). If you want dvd footage from the classic line-up, check out the critic review of the Strangers in the Night DVD-it has four concert songs of a really young Michael Schenker with UFO and 2 more songs (one with Mick Bolton and the other being a made for TV video with Schenker) or the Too Hot to Handle-Story of UFO reissue DVD that has a bit of Schenker.
elduave Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Classic lineup on the new DVD? Yes, in a way. The Michael stories alone on this thing are as worthy as songs! You gotta hear Phil & Paul doing MS's voice when they tell these stories. The Toilet Rendevous story is one of the funniest band stories I've EVER heard!Plutos tips are good, I'll add that if you're making a choice between the 2, go with the Too Hot To Handle UFO story video.
princeofdarkness56 Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I saw that AC/DC UFO tour myself. I still have vivid memories of it after all these years. They just don't make them like they use to.
musicman Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I was a huge UFO fan as a kid - great band. It's too bad MS can't make his mind-up and stick to it.I met Vinnie Moore years ago at a in-store for Ibanez - very nice guy. Thanks for the heads-up on the DVD.I will add it to my Christmas list.

Yeah, that bathroom story was definitely the high light of the interview session. I couldn't stop laughing, but I had to keep reversing the part when Phil talks to the manager in the bathroom cause I couldn't understand what the hell Phil said. I wonder who that manager was?
elduave Posted December 3, 2005 Author Posted December 3, 2005 Wasn't it "Kock it on head, Bill"? Also I think they where talking about Personal Manager. Bill Curbishley?
DavidE Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 I got to see UFO at the Palladium in NYC. I remember Off Broadway opened (and sucked huge time IMHO). I can't remember who else was on the bill though, but it was a great band. Dang....
straightblues Posted December 3, 2005 Posted December 3, 2005 but for me, UFO will always be Mogg/Way/Shenker/Parker & I'll even include Raymond. I saw that tour as well. Chapman was never as good as Micheal Schenker.
luiss Posted December 4, 2005 Posted December 4, 2005 Another UFO fan here.Last albums are so so,but I really like first Michael Schenker ones.......I 've never have been lucky enough to see them live however.
wgarces Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 but for me, UFO will always be Mogg/Way/Shenker/Parker & I'll even include Raymond. I saw that tour as well. Chapman was never as good as Micheal Schenker. Saw 'em on that tour also. No Chapman is no Schenker, but he's a smokin' player in his own right. I also saw the Blackfoot/UFO tour with Chapman. Do you guys remember that poster of Schenker playing the white V with his hair in his eyes? I still have it!
DaveL Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 hey I need to find a UFO dvd that has old schoolfootage, does this have any or can anyone recommendsomething else??? Stevieconlon Posted December 5, 2005 Posted December 5, 2005 Big UFO fan. Finally saw Schenker/Mogg/Way/Raymond lineup at the Vic in Chicago in the late 90's. Great show. Saw AC/DC with Bon Scott in a bar for $5 on first US tour. Unforgettable!
