Michael_B Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Has anyone here been to the Orlando Guitar Show? Is it worth a 90-minute drive from Tampa?
Willie G. Moseley Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 I haven't been to the Orlando show but have known the promoter for about two decades. Morty has his act together, unlike some other opportunistic would-be guitar show promoters who've come and gone....if he didn't, he wouldn't still be doin''em. Hopefully I can make it down there one of these days.
Brentrocks Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 Any guitar show is worth a 90-minute drive! yesssssss
Tortious Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 I keep meaning to head up there, looks reasonably cool.
The Shark Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 Morty gets four or five hours of my time every year. Worth the drive from Tampa? I don't want to be the guy that tells you yes. I've not bought or sold anything at that show for years. And I've tried. I am always able to find some cool shirts and some deals on parts though.

Ting Ho Dung Posted January 10, 2015 Posted January 10, 2015 There is absolutely no way to sneak in. But I'm going. It's more like 5 days drive from Seattle. If you can make it to Lakeland you can ride with me but I'm leaving early to catch breakfast.
Michael_B Posted January 10, 2015 Author Posted January 10, 2015 I may try to connect with you. Stella may come, too.
cmatthes Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Guitar shows in the '80s and '90s were a blast. I stopped going at some point in the late '90s, just because with the dominance of eBay, they mostly sucked.
devrock Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Chris nails it. The New York Guitar Show was like going to a porn convention. I've gone to the one in Fairfield, CT a couple of times recently and one that is trying to get going out on Long Island. The one in FFD is VERY small. The other is promising if they can get more vendors.
Sugartune Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 Guitar show, eh? Sometime I'd like to make it out to one.
velorush Posted January 13, 2015 Posted January 13, 2015 When is it? It's -3C here today. A bailing twine show sounds interesting so long as it's in Orlando!
The Shark Posted January 18, 2015 Posted January 18, 2015 Arrived at 10:45 this morning. Much more good stuff than last year. Here's the Hamer report.Steve Stevens in a cool blue color I could identify, but don't know the proper name of. Dots. $1,150. Played nice and had lots of cool finish cracks. Guy said he'd deal on it. Found Thorn in front of the booth with the Cali signed by Lita Ford. Nice run of the mill bolt-on Cali (alder body???). Price was $1,800. Yeah, I know.....Brad Whitford Korina Standard for 10K. I've known Tim (the dealer) since 1988. I think it's on consignment. Not sure who owns it, but he acted like he was getting paid to show it. Pics and provenance included. At least Brad didn't write on it!It was a good show. The most fun was spending some time with Rick Derringer. Sold me a DVD recorder at Greg Rike's studio in Altamonte Springs (a suburb or Orlando). It's killer. Rick is such a "star". He showed me how to play the opening lick of his song "Hardball". He smiled, when I asked him to show me. He signed my DVD "God Bless, Rick". Any day you can spend some time with Thorn and Ricky D is a great day!
devrock Posted January 21, 2015 Posted January 21, 2015 No pics?? How dare you! Especially the Lita Cali???
Ting Ho Dung Posted January 22, 2015 Posted January 22, 2015 No pics?? How dare you! Especially the Lita Cali??? I'll be happy to upload the photo. Just didn't think there would be interest in a black Cali.
