Shielding paint or adhesive tape/foil may not look so great. Yup. A simple sheet of white paper will also work. Spray painting it white does carry some risk of the enamels not playing well together. burningyen Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 (edited) I’d worry about paper soaking and discoloring. My method has been to spray the back with Krylon and then apply aluminum adhesive sheet, cutting strategic slots to avoid eddy current-inducing complete loops around the pickups. Copper sheet might make the cutting unnecessary. Edited July 5, 2024 by burningyen 1 Quote

Copper sheet might make the cutting unnecessary. Depends on the thickness of the paper and the deftness of the person spraying the adhesive. Truth be told, the paper needn't be treated with adhesive at all. If cut properly and securely screwed down, it's not going anywhere.  2 Quote
burningyen Posted July 5, 2024 Posted July 5, 2024 Ah, yeah, if you're not adhering the paper to the plastic then no discoloration to worry about. The shielding will then also be free-floating, but like you said, if everything's screwed down it's fine. Quote
diablo175 Posted July 14, 2024 Author Posted July 14, 2024 After a bit of consideration, I decided to very carefully hand cut some neon card stock as the color layer for my So Cal guard. At the time of selecting the sheets of card stock, I could not make up my mind as to which color would work best with the black body. Guesses anyone? 1 Quote
diablo175 Posted July 15, 2024 Author Posted July 15, 2024 Just need to wire this beeyotch up and retune her...  3 Quote
diablo175 Posted July 22, 2024 Author Posted July 22, 2024 Oh yeahhhhh. SoCal mod project # 1. DONE! Given the Halloween-ish hues, gonna call this one "Jack"  5 Quote
diablo175 Posted July 26, 2024 Author Posted July 26, 2024 IT IS ALIVE!!! Just got this back from my local repair/tech guru and it totally rips! (Even if I don't ) The Gravelin Mongoose double slug just scorches! His single coil is tasty as well! The guitar is kick ass to start with and these mods now have it up to a level usually occupied by custom builds and customs shops!!! Â 7 Quote
specialk Posted July 26, 2024 Posted July 26, 2024 Now that is one kick@$$ guitar! Big congrats. 1 Quote
diablo175 Posted August 7, 2024 Author Posted August 7, 2024 The arrival of the Charvels- the revamped So Cal and "Yellow Slither" will have to tide me over for a few more weeks until the other So Cal gets refinished and then reassembled. Brian Bock texted me with news of the color ordered for it. Perfect. The neon magenta pickguard is gonna look awesome with this hue!!   2 Quote
diablo175 Posted August 18, 2024 Author Posted August 18, 2024 Trying to decide between these 2 colors on the pick guard for the slime green So Cal. Quote
scottcald Posted August 22, 2024 Posted August 22, 2024 I agree the left. Gives early JEM vibes. 2 Quote
Travis Posted August 23, 2024 Posted August 23, 2024 That looks killer!  And I don’t think you can go wrong with either Pickguard for the slime green body. 1 Quote
diablo175 Posted August 23, 2024 Author Posted August 23, 2024 So the final phase of modding my (#2) So Cal, "Jack," has wrapped up! The addition of the Sustianiac just about puts this on par with my more snooty pedigree-ed axes, the Custom Shops, the one-offs, the Boo-teek builds. So much fun and a nice tool to have on a guit intended to be a gigging work horse. Â 3 Quote

diablo175 Posted September 6, 2024 Author Posted September 6, 2024 Jack has undergone a facelift. Now, he(she?) goes by Jade. You figger out the pronouns. Green guitars sound betterer.   2 Quote
