So...  Who else really wants to just b.s. about my new guitar?

I was actually thinking of requesting it with a sustainblock early on, but decided that I'd stick with "the formula".

I'm also considering having Mike string it BEADGB with 13-56s right out of the gate to facilitate the heavy.

So...you're NOT doing a baritone?!?!

:D

For some reason I thought tuning mattered (BEADF#B vs. BEADGB) with whether or not it was considered a baritone, not just range...

So if BEADGB counts as baritone, then it's a baritone. :D

This is my first standard-style guitar in over 20 years.  The guitar I first learned on was a Cort Effector, so this is a homecoming of sorts.

First impressions:

  • It's surprisingly compact and light (7.452 lbs) and doesn't feel clumsy to wield.
  • The playing position is sort of forward-and-left of what it is for a Studio type shape for me, but not in an awkward way.
  • It's really resonant.
  • The neck is like a vintage carve with fuller "shoulders".
  • I had Mike string it as a baritone.  D'Addario13-56.  It could probably go up another gauge.
  • It sounds enormous.  The low end is surprisingly pronounced compared to some of my other guitars (even the other one strung baritone).
  • The pickups sound fantastic.  They don't seem overpowering, but have a really strong voice and clean up nicely with the volume knobs.
  • The fit and finish are great.
  • The back is clear, so it really emphasizes the natural variation in the woods.
  • The peghead overlay is ebony (which barely shows in pictures) but is a really nice touch.
  • As predicted, the blank fretboard is a non-issue since I only ever see the side dots from playing position.
  • The side dots are abalone, so they have a nice shimmer and sparkle to them, which is a nice touch for the player.
  • It's already inspired some new riffs and lines and has taken to existing material well.

I'll get some more pics posted later.  The color is a bit of a chameleon...  It definitely looks like that, but other times it looks ... otherwise ... too.  Neither are bad, but the pic above is how I think of the color.

Thanks to Mike and Trish and for all those at the HFC who helped and encouraged them.  Without all of you, this guitar couldn't have been mine.

I'd also like to thank all of you who slept in on the day when the special run opened up.  At position #43, I'm very, very close to having missed this.  ;)

Excellent! Big congrats.

Calling this run the Ultimate was the perfect descriptor. They all are!
