kurtsstuff Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Well...I think I could possibly be..the biggest proponent of the Cali...It all started with a fluke trade deal in that.....I was trading a bunch of gear with a store in Eugene Oregon and spied a Snakeskin Cali (yes Peter...that one...hehe) and I said "yeah..throw me that guitar too.. Thats all I'm going to say in the matter of that guitar but I've since "hoarded" many and have many and unloaded many..(doubles of what I already have) Always looking for different colors etc...from what I already have but...bottom line is...The best "shred","rock", "metal" guitar ever built and has not been surpassed at all of any brand or configuration since....I could go on a whole soapbox thing on these but...I'll spare ya'll!!!
Dasein Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 You've all seen my Cali -- I love it. But I have always found that the sweet spot for picking (and doing pinch harmonics etc) was slightly more difficult to access because of the extra length of the fretboard.Still waiting for the second run of the Tremol-No before I order a unit -- but as soon as I get that baby it's going in!
ET_KenW Posted June 20, 2006 Posted June 20, 2006 Loved my old relic'd 87. But after playing the 25th Ann, and my acoustic, the neck started to fell too thin, if that is possible with my short fingers. I'd love to try a newer one with a possible thicker neck, sort of like my Daytona, or Mike Lee's Diablo.(At least I think that's what he brought up to Chicago about two or so years ago.) It's not like I have massive speed skills. LOL
serial Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Tobereeno likes 'em twice as much as the rest of us.
zorrow Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 Used to have one and it was great. Nothing wrong at all with my Cali, but I sold it to buy a Vector KK, which sounds meaner and in addition it's a Vee, my preferred shape -- I own now four electric guitars, and only one of them is not V-shaped.
pesocaster Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 any of these have beefy necks ?I've played a few and they all had very thin "shredder" necks wich make sense because it's a SHREDDEER GUITAR... Just curious...
atquinn Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 any of these have beefy necks ?I've played a few and they all had very thin "shredder" necks wich make sense because it's a SHREDDEER GUITAR... Just curious...The neck on my Flame Maple Cali Elite was beefier than the neck on the other 2 Cali's I've had and beefier than the neck on my Diablo. Of all the Hamer shredders I've had (so far), it's had the beefiest neck.-Austin
Nuclear Wessel Posted November 2, 2006 Posted November 2, 2006 any of these have beefy necks ?I've owned two mid 90's Cali Elites that had pretty hefty necks. Not baseball bats, but definitely on the chunky side.
crabby Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 I voted yes BUT I need to qualify that yes vote,,,,, I do NOT care for locking trems,, not even a little bit,,,,, However, I love the rest of the guitar,,,,,,,, I know there's an imported Hamer Californian and it has a "stratish type" of trem,, I like that a LOT ,,,,, now IF Hamer made a USA Californian with a regular o' trem like a strat has I'd be all over it...............espeaclly if it's body was chambered.
atquinn Posted November 4, 2006 Posted November 4, 2006 now IF Hamer made a USA Californian with a regular o' trem like a strat has I'd be all over it...............espeaclly if it's body was chambered. Sacrilege!!! -Austin
Dasein Posted November 7, 2006 Posted November 7, 2006 I only have the one --- sorry if this is getting old. I promise to buy a new one soon.

stonge Posted January 5, 2007 Posted January 5, 2007 here's looking at you, kid with better quality control they wouldn't have put the boomers in backwards. d'oh!
RacerX Posted January 6, 2007 Posted January 6, 2007 here's looking at you, kid with better quality control they wouldn't have put the boomers in backwards. d'oh! Stonge, Probably my favorite Cali to date.... If that ever needs a new home, I'm more than ready right here!!! Mark.
serial Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 AMAZING Cali!! One odd thing though-is it just my computer, or is this post listed as "today", but showing a date of 1/5/07? Hmmm-time warping... here's looking at you, kid with better quality control they wouldn't have put the boomers in backwards. d'oh! Stonge, Probably my favorite Cali to date.... If that ever needs a new home, I'm more than ready right here!!! Mark.
shredmeister Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 The Hamer Cali has a really nice feel to it and 27 frets is to die for if you like to shred. Nice wight guitar, comfortable neck. A definite winner. A couple minor things - I like a satin back maple neck rather than the shalack or whatever they put on the Cali. Not a big deal just personal preference. The trem was OK - not great. I would prefer an original Floyd Rose or Kahler. Kurt on the board bought this one from me. Good guitar - I just prefer passive pups and did not want to have to change the pots etc... BTW I would try to find an old USA made - preferably Maple Topped with the Boomerangs and passive pups. But thats just me.
HamerJammer Posted February 23, 2007 Posted February 23, 2007 Cali's are killer, But I dig Chaparral's alittle bit more. They have a more original body shape that makes them uniquely "stand-out". Cali's seem alitte more a-typical Jackson,ESP, Ibanez.....What?? I'm just saying!
HamerArtist Posted February 24, 2007 Posted February 24, 2007 I still have mine and i really dig it! It as a custom color, white with gold sparkles.
edgar_allan_poe Posted October 28, 2007 Posted October 28, 2007 I love the Cali, but my all time favorite super strat is definitely the Jackson PC-1. That might just be the most underrated guitar in history.
shredmeister Posted October 29, 2007 Posted October 29, 2007 Yeah the PC1 is my all time favorite American production bolt-on guitar in both tone and playability catagories.Quality wise they are right up there with Suhr or Anderson and I have played several of all of these. The Hamer Cali had a neck that was a little too thin for me. But I love the guitar and the concept of the upper fret access - so much I am having a custom built that will resemble a 24 fret Cali with a thicker neck and two hums.
proxmax Posted September 28, 2009 Posted September 28, 2009 The Hamer Cali had a neck that was a little too thin for me. But I love the guitar and the concept of the upper fret access - so much I am having a custom built that will resemble a 24 fret Cali with a thicker neck and two hums.that depends on the year and model!i have 3 calis now and the neckshapes are totally different.my 91 flamed maple has explicit beefier neck than the 88.the 89 chap neck ist thinner than the 89 flamed maple cali.
