If you turn the saddle screws too tight on the Schaller FR the screws might strip, the knife edges on older ones might be a problem too. I think the newer ones are better. My experience is that the Schaller FR is just a tad mellower than the OFR. I have used the Schaller FR branded with Hamer, Charvel, LAG and Epiphone and haven't felt any difference. I read somewhere that the Washburn branded units were kind of different, inferior. I don't know if there is any truth to it. I like the shorter locking screws. The saddles and finetuning screws are identical. I think the Schaller Lockmeister is identical to the OFR specs since Floyd Rose outsourced most of his production to Korea. I like both units, prefer the OFR/Lockmeister.

The Hamer-Schaller Floyd on my Cali (pictured with some mods) worked fine, but I replaced it with an OFR I had from my old 80's Kramer (pictured with OFR arm). The only real advantage is that I'll never worry about stripping out the base threads which hold the saddles. Plus the OFR chrome baseplate looks nicer. I did, however, replace the arm fixture of the OFR with that from the Hamer-Schaller unit. I preferred being able to tighten the collar on the arm to adjust tension.

The original Hamer Schaller Floyd Roses have this problem whereby the threading for the screws that lock down the saddles would strip. However, you can always buy a replacement Schaller Floyd baseplate. The second generation Schallers have those hardened thread inserts, so no more stripping out anymore. Tonally, they sounds a tad more midrangey and less top endy than the OFRs

Agree with everything that's been said thus far.

Depending on your preferences, you can swap in an OFR or a Schaller LockMeister for the Schaller if you change out the stock string screws for some shorter 38mm ones. These can be acquired either thru Schaller directly or occasionally you can find them online.

To be clear, the Schaller in my pic is the LockMeister and is essentially the same as (some have argued it's better than) an OFR. I personally like the responsiveness of it over the Schaller locking version found on the Hamers but it shares the OFR's slightly brighter sound.
