Coricidin Bottle

Anyone know if this would be special? Found it going through my old grandfather’s old stuff. Had a few screws in it.

They're legendary for being used for slide by Duane Allman, looks nice provided it's the correct length...though I have no idea how old this particular one is.  Unfortunately, if it does get used for slide, the label's gonna get worn off the bottle at the least...and I don't think I've ever seen an old one with the label, ever.   It's one of those classic dilemmas of originality, damned if you do keep the label, damned if you don't.

Saw one like it for $150 on eBay. Kind of pointless to leave the label and cap to keep higher value, best if someone used it.

But think I will sell it as is since I don't play much slide and would rather break a $10 glass slide than this one. Or give it to someone like Derrick Trucks if I could meet him and hang a bit.

Check the antique market first.  Like crunchee says, that label is something guitar players never see.

Somebody was selling new slides made like Coricidin bottles.  The real ones get listed on eBay for high prices.

If you ain't Duane, that slide still won't make you Duane.

I had a few back in high school/college days, the label was different and I'm sure this one is older.

Yep, aside from temporary inspiration, this won't make you play like Duane.  There is a local duo, Brother Smith, here in Central KY. Wes has been known to grab a shot glass or whatever and lay down some righteous playing.

Was wondering if some one was going to offer tree fiddy, as in $3.50 😁

I'll take that offer!  ;)

That is definitely one of the good ones.  The ones from that era just have the right weight & thickness of the glass.

In the absence of the label...you can spot those by the casting on the bottom.  There is a 'W' in a circle and a two digit date. (Mine is marked '66')

Its a great slide...but I'm certainly no Brother Duane.

I’ve been trying to find information about the mold mark and saw a reference or two about “W”.  This one has an “I” inside an oval (zero or letter O) and the number 13.  The I in the 0 would be the manufacturer of the bottle and the 13 would be the cavity or mold number.

I can also see other marks on bottles with a newer label, the red label. One article shows a red label bottle next to a label-less bottle at The Big House Museum. My bottle would be older based on the label..  Seems reasonable there were multiple suppliers for the bottle over the years.

I would think "all original" (including label and cap) would be a factor among purists, be they slide players or antique collectors.

I'm about to sell my 1960 "Men Into Space" lunchbox (metal, Aladdin-made) and have been examining the "all original" concept for something besides guitars. Apparently I'm in good shape on accounta it is indeed all original including handle, vacuum bottle, stopper, cup/lid (no cracks), and bottle clip.

A bit of minor corrosion inside is analogous to dings and corrosion on a guitar---it will keep it from being described as "mint".

Another plus is that it was for a short-lived CBS television series that only ran a year. However, it was still apparently enough of a hit initially to merit the manufacturing and marketing of  this item and others.

That is a cool lunchbox.

I also found my Hogan's Hero lunchbox!  It's in great shape, the thermos is still good.  Of course, I found a lot of old stuff in bad shape - I played with all the old toys, the reason I got them.

I prefer open top slides to keep air moving over the callous. But it would be cool to have one of those just because of Duane. I have used other medicine bottles and they all work fine. No guitarists would care if this one wasn’t what Duane played. If he played an old Doan’s Pills  bottle THAT woul then have become the shit.

I still want the Coricidin one tho... :)

So, in eBay language you say the lunch box is near mint except for some corrosion and rust.

^^^^pretty much. Hagglers might say "Very Good Plus"---same kinda terminology used on older guitars...
