1981 Hamer Vector

Here is a pricey one from my neck of the woods [Minnesota], no affiliation to the guitar or seller BTW. There was a beautiful Black Vector with a very early version of the Floyd Rose trem from a music store out in the northwest that I really considered buying way,way back when I first joined the HFC but it was alas not to be. Despite being more of a traditionalist as far as guitars go, I really like the Hamer Vector model. Not sure about the "Sunburst" finish as far as rarity goes..........this guitar has certainly been played and has it's share of battle scars RARE Vintage 1981 Hamer Vector USA Electric Guitar Sunburst Finish w/Original Case Special | Reverb

I think there's a typo in that listing. The first number in the price should be "1". 😁

Well you can put a high price on anything.........................now getting it sold for that price, well that is quite another thing.

I like the "Original Hamer milled brass bridge/sustain block", and the included OHSC, but $4400 USD is way too steep a price.

Did the original Vectors only come with the Sunburst/Special headstock and then in the 1990's- 2000's finally get the Gibson style headstock?

I sold my bound '81 Vector that was cleaner and rarer than this one for less money, so I'd be shocked if they got anything remotely close to asking price.  This one doesn't have a figured top either.  Oh well, I wish them luck as I'd think half the asking price would be more realistic these days...

The original Vectors in the early 80's had the Sunburst/Special headstock (a huge mistake according to Frank Untermyer who worked for Hamer at the time), and when the KK model came out in the mid '80s it had the V style headstock from my recollections.  Correct me if I'm wrong forumites 😆

This will not happen. This is more a price for a KK Downing style Vector

According to The Book, the production of the Vector KK and the revised Blitz heralded the switch to a more appropriate headstock (which Paul and Frank desperately wanted). Around '85, I think. The Phantom went the same route, of course.

Correction:  the change in headstock design happened in '84.

That’s a silly price, but there’s one born every minute…

I'll play the Devil's advocate here... yes, the price is way too high but I've personally watched the the prices on the Korina Vectors & Standards double then triple in the last few years... just watched a Blitz sell on Craigslist for less than $700... "I thought those days of cheap Hamers were long gone"... Personally, I'm probably in the minority here but I'm happy to finally see these high quality instruments "that are not being made anymore" prices soar~ "although currently taking a dive"

I'd like to see the Vectors hover in the $2k-ish range 😀

I agree that the (non-KK) ‘80s Vectors should be in the $2k-ish range.

Agree, except I want to buy one. In this case it should be in the 350 range🙃

That would be a good price compared to the crackhead on Reverb…

And that's certainly not your average Vector. Dave has some gorgeous toys.
