BTMN Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 So Dave’s Guitar in LaCrosse and now in Madison is one of the most posted guitar shops posted here it seems. Post up a guitar you have gotten from there. I will start. This is a Warmoth Korina V. Found it looking at a Hamer I couldn’t buy but surfed the inventory after drooling. BOOM!! Found Malcolm.
django49 Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 I have picked up 3 or 4 there. Late 2021 stumbled onto an archtop. Anyone else ever heard to a Les KORN? The builder seems to have quite a rep amongst jazzers. Far from all good, as some questionable practices got wide publicity and seemingly shorted out his business. It is not perfect, but for a high quality guitar that is more or less comparable to a Gibson Super 400 with Johnny Smith type pickup, not bad. I was not happy with the frets as installed, so they and the nut were replaced by a local guru. Now I love it. Even thought I have no bidness owning an 18" (!!) archtop. Then there is the replica of George Harrison's rosewood Tele. Not the smartest move I ever made, but......SOLID Brazilian neck AND body. NOT chambered or weight relieved. Biggest sounding Tele I have bumped into. And, yes, it is as heavy as you would imagine. I should probably sell it. One of these days...... BTW, I understand that there is currently offered for sale a similar Tele that was owned and used on stage by Elvis. Apparently he decided it was too heavy, even though it was chambered. They are asking ONLY $295,000...Well, maybe if I dropped the two and the nine.....
hamerhead Posted March 31, 2023 Posted March 31, 2023 It was actually more orange. Nice guitar. Shoulda kept it.
JGale Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Jeepers Creepers!! How about a little warning before you post Pr0n!!
G Man Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 This was posted as a PSA a while back in the classifieds here. Best $750 I ever spent, even if I do have more into it now.
Tortious Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 One of the rare new guitars I've bought in the last 20 years. And a 'used' one that you couldn't tell it wasn't 'new' because of the stupid aging, but it was a nice guitar once I got Gravelin's in it. I think there were a few others. I remember reading all about that Les Korn dude. Quite a story.
Feynman Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Dang. Now I regret looking for these photos. This guitar was a revelation to me.
kizanski Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 2004 Monaco. Purchased new (in 2007). 2006 6120. It was a dud. Dave took it right back. No questions. 1959 Stratocaster: Refin by Dan Shinn at Lay's

GuitarGuy65 Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Dave's is a great shop and he's a really cool guy to boot... I've bought quite a few from him, and here are a few of them: 2008 Korina Les Paul Tribute (wish I still had this one), 2016 Custom Shop Aged '59 Reissue Les Paul, 2022 Silver Sky, and 1986 PRS Custom. There are others too, I like Dave LOL!
TBP Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 I've only bought one guitar from Dave's, a Collings OM1, but it was an excellent experience. Unfortunately I recently sold it. I got a reasonable offer from Dave's for it and a couple others, but a shop within a little closer driving distance offered more. If you would like to gaze upon its visage:
Jim P Posted April 1, 2023 Posted April 1, 2023 Funny, but I've purchased more guitars than I can count from Dave's, and at the moment I don't think that I have a single one left. Although, it's been my favorite music store since he opened shop in the mid '80s.
bkrownd Posted April 2, 2023 Posted April 2, 2023 My dad used to like to window-shop at Dave's every year when we visited the grandparents for Thanksgiving. La Crosse is an ideal place to spend Thanksgiving, BTW. We knew somebody who worked in the back room there through family. That was long before I got interested in electric guitar though.
