Pups direct mounted into the body?    Hearing sonic benefits or is that just to keep the stripped down low goodness aesthetic ?

Aesthetic’s, less is more and the more part is the top. The goal was no distraction, its all about the wood.

My wife and I celebrated out 19th Anniversary yesterday. Even though we didn’t do anything big,  we did endure a pretty big family crisis this weekend and sometimes you get reminded that when the life gets rough, the right person will be there to lean on , or to just sit with you.

Thanks again to Team Shishkov for every ounce of effort, and every minute that it takes to complete each customers dream.

Too many cool things about this one, including the backstory.  Here are a few more pics for your enjoyment, because Shawn’s guitar is just beyond groovy!

Fuck me…. That’s the best one I’ve seen yet. And I can’t believe I’m gonna end up with it when Bubs gets tired of it and passes it on…. 😂😂😂

I love the Hawaii story and the surfboard-ish shape in the grain. And the more you look at it, the more really cool details pop out.

Thanks gentlemen 0105 is a killer guitar. Team Shishkov went above and beyond as they do with every guitar before and after this one. You will not regret the wait.

Josh Gravelin is the man!

Thoughts on the WMB now that you’ve had it for a while?

I set out to achieve a very balanced instrument that was almost “HiFi” and “3Dimensional”. I wanted clarity, string definition, string to string separation, a quick, percussive bottom end. The definitive “Tele on steroids”  Everything mattered to me, the Underwound Gravelins, the Mahogany with a top that added beauty and elegance but didn’t distract from the fact that I love all Mahogany Guitars, and the bridge to translate the strings to the wood without becoming “the sound” of the guitar like I believe the Sustainblock does. Mike’s Bridge takes the Sustainblock forward and it’s a wonderful bridge that I really really had to think about using because I was worried about how it would sound. In the end, it was the perfect way to go for this guitar, and Mike chambered the guitar which I believe was a great compliment to the overall guitar.

I do not regret the bridge or the simple two knob setup.  Team Shishkov was great to work with, and even though I had this almost fully formed idea of what I wanted, I felt challenged and grateful for the talks that I had with Mike and Josh. I trust them and let them do the work. Hey when I got the guitar I didn’t know what I was really going to look like or sound like. Mike picked out the inlay work and the added these little details that you can only get when you work one on one with a builder. Josh and I had had this amazing discussion about pickups for almost 2hrs on the phone one day and these came out of that discussion. When people ask me what magnets are in them, or what wire, my reply is “I don’t know and I don’t care”, I asked for the pickups translate that the guitar sounds like and Josh brought the magic home.

My one regret, I wrapped up so much sentimental investment into the guitar, and there is and will only be one of them in the world,  that I just can’t throw it in the car and go. It is getting played and I love it, almost too much. I have considered ordering another in a more stripped down form as my go anywhere do everything guitar because it is so amazing.

Play it, Shawn. There's only one thing that makes a great guitar better, and that's playing the hell out of it. And there's nothing better than a played-in guitar.

Completely agree.  Play it like you stole it.

I play it, but I would die inside if I drop something on it. 🤣

If only there were secure well made wall hanger type devices to secure these instruments up and away from harm …

No one wants to dent their guitar, but you have to take that chance.

As I get older I start thinking about actually using some of the things I have kept nice.  Those nice guitars do not need to get beaten up carelessly, but they they can be put at risk.  Nothing was bought to collect, but some instruments are nice to have in nice shape.  Most have no dings, but some have been played in bars.  I could worry about them, too, but... but... but...  Just play them.  There are repairmen who can fix the small imperfections or the major disasters.

The nice knives that look so perfectly made are going to get scratched.  I have one on order that will be put in a sheath, used, sharpened, scratched, stained, and it will make a collector cringe.  I will enjoy the use.

I had been on another planet in April and had missed out on the thread. It‘s a mind blowing guitar. The book matching figure is incredible. What is the construction of the sustain block bridge? It looks very interesting.

Congratulations to a miracle!

Ok, I have absolutely No use for another bass, but, I wish Mike would finally make one.  I need an excuse to buy one and seeing a Shishkov bass would do it.
