Blue Ridge Rock Fest

Big bummer working EMS Saturday & Sunday at the Blue Ridge Rock Fest. Torrential rain cancelled all the bands, so the ~40,000 campers got roaring drunk and rowdy. I spent 12 hours on my feet in the clinic dealing with dislocated shoulders, broken arms, busted teeth, split open faces, alcohol poisoning, and panic attacks triggered by over-indulgence in booze and drugs. 2am Sunday at the end of my shift we rode around and saw what was called "the Butthole tent" where a hundred drunks were watching guys wrestle, resulting in 3 or 4 broken bones and dislocated shoulders. Sunday 3 hours was spent cruising around in an EMS golf cart looking for missing persons and viewing the hundreds of acres of muddy trash and abandoned tents, etc..

I wanted to see Pantera one last time, would have been a great bookend to my seeing them in DFW bars in the 80s. My pals at VIR had me set to be at the main stage in an EMS cart for their set.

Looks like a bevy of "Sentence Fragment Metal" bands on that bill.

ETA: Given my penchant for sight gags (and if I wasn't 100% confident I'd get a C&D order from Hallmark Channel), I'd consider starting a spoof metal band named "When Calls the Heart."

Someone said Shinedown drug some drums & amps down to the Butthole Tent and did a set in the mud, but I can not confirm...

I’m getting old.  Other than the bands, none of that sounds appealing.

That has nothing to do with age.  It is not be appealing to many younger people.

Camping can be cool for some people, but I have seen trashed campsites in the state parks when I have gone kayaking.  There are no bands playing when they do that.

At least Vince Neil's set wasn't cancelled due to rain...

Who was in Vince's band this year?  He hires good players.  Steve Stevens has toured with him.

After hearing his vocals from clips posted online over the last several years all I can say is...who cares? 🤣

Yeah, you can tell the guys who can still sing their parts like Extreme vs. a lot of others by just how much they hold the mic towards the crowd to sing the parts they can't anymore!

Gary Cherone still has a great voice and he sounded really good at the Extreme Living Colour Concert I saw in August, but he wasn't ready to match Cory Glover of Living Colour that night.  Cory hit all the notes through out the nite, but when Gary was doing his voice solo, they put a lot of delay on it.  Gary sounded really good on all the songs, but he couldn't match Cory trying to hit the high notes.

Nuno gave Vernon props as a guitar player and Vernon played great but the mix wasn't as good.  Vernon got lost in the mix a few times.

Nuno didn't have that problem, he was the highlight of the band's mix all night.  Deservedly so, I might add.  They were still trying to get the mix set for   Pat Badger's new Hamer bass.  Later in the show they got it down.

It was below the fold but definitely front page at Action NEWS Ten on Your Side Working for You! tonight at 5, 5:30 and 6.

More at 11 no doubt.

A large outdoor Rock Concert interrupted by Rain. Who knew?

@Brooks: Wow, that is an impressive lineup! Were there multiple stages going each day? Is EMT your day gig?

Machine Head, Exodus, Suicidal, Testament!?, Overkill…. Seeing all those band names together made me think of the refrigerator ‘word’ magnet sets that people use to cobble sentences — one could probably string some pretty vile statements together out of the band names.

I could see that being difficult. Living Colour has a lot more going on with each instrument per song.

Vince looks like he should be in a southern rock cover band.
