LucSulla Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 This year, I'm making a serious go at buying no new guitars or amps. I've sold two amps and a guitar in the last two weeks with another one still up for sale. I finally looked at how much I have outstanding on gear, and after a down year of gigging, working PayPal credit to keep that six months always six months away, and so on, it all seems a little ridiculous, particularly the amps. In the last six months, I sold my Marshall SC20 800, SV20 Plexi, and 2555x Silver Jube. I hung on to the Vintage Modern because there were only so many made, and I think they are amazing amps. Otherwise, if a Splawn Quickrod, SuperSport 22, Friedman JEL 20, or said Marshall can't get it done, it doesn't need to be did. I'm hopeful that I can hang on to the Richie Kotzen Tele and my old Ibanez 560 I brought back to life, but we shall see. One is a great gig workhorse, and the other is the best damned office beater guitar $600 could buy, but I have also enjoyed making room. The Les Pauls, Charvel/Jackson, and Hamer/Shishkov stuff are all on the keepers list. I don't have any from those brands that I wouldn't miss terribly if I sold them. The only two exceptions are if I happen to see my 1996 G&L Legacy on Reverb that was a high school graduation gift, I plan to buy it back. I may also buy a Talladega depending on how my taxes end up and if I end up with a promotion at work. Those are two ongoing projects that stretch back a couple of years now though. Like a vampire living off vermin, I'm aim to have to scratch my new gear itches with accessories this year, and there is no loop hole for cabinets either. I failed at this miserably in 20 and 21 and don't even think I tried in 22 or 23, but this year is the year. Anyone else on the no amps/guitars/cabs wagon this year? 2 Quote

Plus, I didn't say, "I'm going to concentrate less on buying and more on actually playing what I own," because we all know that is bullshit, lol. 6 Quote
scottcald Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Yeah, I just want to either get rid of stuff I'm not using and finish up with my Irish friend Pile O'Projects or get rid of that stuff. 1 Quote
Hbom Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 No amps or effects this year. But I won't rule out a guitar if the right one came along. Quote
RobB Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 (edited) I have 5 guitars going up for sale this year (Fender, Charvel USA, Hamer, Bacchus, and Gibson). I know I’ll prolly purchase a really nice one with part of the proceeds, but that’s 4 less, right? Cant think of any amps to purchase, pretty much have that covered. I’ll be listing a VAC22 head soon. UPS delivered a Friedman IR-X today that is replacing a VooduValve LE (unfortunately residing in e-waste heaven) for my home DI setup. Buncha FX and pickups going up for sale, too. Only adds will probably be a Strobostomp Mini and a couple of REVV G8s. Edited January 4, 2024 by RobB Quote
G Man Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I'm out, picking up a 2x12 bass cab tomorrow. 😁 2 5 Quote

crunchee Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I do a lot of 'comparison shopping' with gear I already own, especially when it comes to prices and to gear I bought during the pandemic and The Great Recession. That's one good thing about inflation, it makes it much easier to say no to a new acquisition. Besides, I can look all I want as long as I don't spend any money. Quote

currypowder Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 I doubt I'll make it through 2024 with no purchases. But I am committed to waiting until I can get completely through my downsizing project, which could take all year. Quote

mathman Posted January 4, 2024 Posted January 4, 2024 Well, I don't buy a lot. especially guitars cause I am really happy with the Proto II and the basses I have. Pedals are still an issue but I just got one pedal that I have been looking to get. Not this one specifically but the type of pedal. 1 Quote

cynic Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 My only plan for any/all things music related is liquidation. I've reluctantly reached the point I'm ready to acknowledge injuries and arthritis won out long ago. While I've spent the last couple decades happy just playing what I can I think I'm officially over it. I'll set aside a select few for my granddaughter because she's shown a bit of interest but I'm not optimistic. 1 Quote
BoogieMKIIA Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Never say never. However, I plan to retire this year and will need funds for house repairs and eventually a new car. I do have more than I can play as much as they devserve, both guitars and amps. But nothing like some members here. Must’ve taken the wrong career path and definitely did not take my father’s advice “ it’s just as easy to fall in love with a rich girl as a poor one”. Quote
Jimbilly Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 I keep looking at the ibanez ehb1005ms (headless, multi-scale 5 string bass). Looks super comfortable to wear/play, supposedly very lightweight. https://www.ibanez.com/eu/products/detail/ehb1005ms_1p_02.html 2 Quote
diablo175 Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 Do guitars ordered (and paid for) in 2023 but arriving in '24 count as '24 purchases? If not, I'm primed to have a no-new-guitars-bought-year in '24. Hell, I may be selling off a few of the herd as well. Got a tricked-out Mexi-Charvel DK 24 up at the moment and another primed to go. Also seriously contemplating letting go of one of the 2 remaining Hamer Cali LE's. Quote

tbonesullivan Posted January 5, 2024 Posted January 5, 2024 (edited) My only problem is that I'm still tempted by getting a Fender with Wide Range humbuckers. I don't know why. However I need to sell like 5 guitars before I even think about getting more. Edited January 5, 2024 by tbonesullivan 1 Quote
