diablo175 Posted March 17, 2024 Posted March 17, 2024 Imagine my delight when, after scoring the MJ Series So-Cal, I discovered this beast! Shares much if not all of the mojo and attention to detail that it's Charvel cousin does. Kick ass materials and components, superb craftsmanship and (most of) the specs that I crave. All at a price point that is a $100 more than the considerably less impressive MIM Pro Mods. Now, if they would just put a fookin' toggle switch on it, it'd be totally on point!! 😆
diablo175 Posted March 17, 2024 Author Posted March 17, 2024 I'll use this opportunity to also go on record as becoming a convert to Gotoh 1996Ts! I had some rather unimpressive experiences with them in the 2010's. However, these last 2 on the respective MJ builds have been stellar! I'm wondering if the noteworthy attention to detail Japanese builders seem to impart also accounts for superior set up of these 1996Ts.

The 1996t just solves it all, it's inexpensive, especially through Philadelphia luthier, well built, amazing engineering, beautiful..put it in and your guitar is going to sound and work way better.. I'm tempted to replace all the hamer branded Floyd's I have with these but I don't play those guitars that much

I’ve always seemed to prefer the non-recessed Floyd’s myself. Just seems to be the right hand feel when palm muting…

Just seems to be the right hand feel when palm muting… It might be helpful to note that some Charvels, like the model I own, have the recessed Floyds as well. That said, I generally prefer the recessed Floyds but seem to be okay with either set up. Some of the Hamers I've owned had rather high-sitting Floyds even though they were routed with recessed Floyd cavities. I think a lot of it just comes from what you are most accustomed to. Spend enough time playing with a recessed Floyd, you grow accustomed to it. Your technique eventually adapts naturally.

Must’ve been the angle or me looking on my phone. I am definitely more accustomed to the non-recessed Floyd but I get what you’re saying about adapting to the different setup.
diablo175 Posted March 23, 2024 Author Posted March 23, 2024 Follow up- I like this DKR so much I bought another.

I like it better than the MJ So-Cal I bought initially. But the So-Cal has a full-sized Strat body and packs a little more oomph in the resonance and sustain dept. methinks.
