Hey guys.
I added another Hamer to my collection with Schaller Floyd that has 4 stripped holes on it's baseplate, or should I say I added another stripped Schaller floyd to my collection of stripped floyds. Was just wondering if anyone ever repaired those threaded holes, or should I just start looking for a new base plate?
Seriously, why would someone put so much force to tight this tiny screw? Any input would be appreciated.

I'm suspicious that some of them on the Hamers aren't that tough of metal to begin with, I recently got a floyded guitar with a real floyd, and while moving a couple of the saddles, those tiny bolts (M2?) were set in REALLY tight, I remember thinking my Hamer Floyds would be in serious danger of being stripped.  I still need to get a 2NM torque key for setting those consistently and safely, I'll put that back on my list.

Those new Gotohs look interesting.  https://www.philadelphialuthiertools.com/bridge-and-tailpieces/tremolos/gotoh-ge-1996t-licensed-floyd-rose-locking-tremolo-bridge-chrome/

It's not just Hamers, it's on all of Schaller...baseplate is made of pot metal and only knife inserts are hardened, although I saw some with hardened inserts for those threaded holes as well.

There was a time you could buy a new baseplate with steel reinforced threads direct from Schaller for around $50 (US): I know = I bought one! You could also repair the holes with a small helicoil kit (I have not done that). For the future, stay clear of tinpot metal baseplates. IME, the Gotoh licensed Floyd is a much better example than even the OFR. Don't get me wrong, the OFR is a great piece of kit (and I have/use them myself) but the Gotoh is a superioir locking trem altogether IMO...

I’ve gotten a replacement Schaller baseplate without issue.

Sent them an email. Will see if they respond.

Thanks

For one Diablo, I got a replacement tremolo plate, even though the threads were still good. For the second one, I ended up replacing the ENTIRE tremolo, as it turned out that the previous (or several previous) owners had sweated all over it, causing all kinds of issues. In the end it was easier to just replace it.

There's also my solution ;) if your threads still hold a fair bit: shim with a small piece of copper wire, it's actually intonated at this spot, and has been stable for quite some time.

- To be fair, I currently own 4 with the stock Hamer Floyds, I've owned a couple others, and this is the only stripped one I've personally seen.

I got in touch with him at the time. He asked to send him $$ as a gift. I responded that I'll send him funds as a purchase and will cover the fees and even put some on top to make sure he is not at loss. He then said he doesnt know me and I'm some kind of scammer. Totally irrational prick. People like that will have to pay me to buy from them.

I used helicoils to repair my original Hamer branded base plate - lasted about a year before it was done like dinner. Ordered a new Schaller branded base plate (with hardened steel inserts) and saddle screws and so far so good though I remain somewhat skeptical about the whole thing...

Well, what are you waiting for? 🤣

EZ Coil is the answer. Got it yesterday, installed it, even tried to overtighten just to see how it behaves...  it and it holds fine. So threaded inserts it is!
  Thanks guys.

Awesome! 👌

That's what I'm going to do if that ever happens to me~

I just avoid the whole issue and replace any old Hamer-stamped Schaller locking trems with new ones or better yet, LockMeisters and shortened string screws. :P
