That's the impression I got as well.  I didn't mean to imply that he's doing anything shady.
It's just that he PM'd me to ask me to remove my first response to his thread because he didn't "want potential buyers mislead." by my statement - ironic since his FS post is inaccurate.

I mean he does flip guitars as a hobby (or side gig). One should not make any mistakes there. But he isn't as knowledgeable about the stuff he has as a typical flipper. I agree that he doesn't know as much about this item as he probably should.

This pic I snatched here a long time ago.

It has to toil in the Screensaver-folder on my Mac since.

They’re incredibly beautiful, they play well, Rio Grande pickups, and some of the largest necks in creation. I don’t remember, did Dave get in a patent dispute with Louisville Slugger or not?

I dont know rhis particular guitar and many on this forum know robins wayyy better.  But though i remain on the lookout for a particular one at a price i can stomach, i grabbed an avalon that was fairly inexpensive.  Great guitar.  No bs. Nice neck, fun to play, a good buy.   Well made.  Basically just really good and made in what seems like a small shop by folks that gave a hoot.  And not being made any more, ever.  As i said, i want another.

If that one ever comes out of storage and you decide it’s no longer for you, I would appreciate your consideration….  🤤🤤🤤

Back to the original topic:  That Ranger is on Reverb with a hefty discount.

I don't know what the story is with that guitar, but I suggest someone grab it.

I'd absolutely buy that were it not for the standard questions I have about any guitar:

  1. weight
  2. neck size (thickness)
  3. smoke or other weird smells.

When I start asking these questions I sound just like every other time-wasting tire-kicker out there rather than a serious buyer, so I just don't.  Always a novel situation when a seller has these details in the ad, but because these are few and far between, I seldom buy anything.  😉

When someone writes a description of a guitar when they don't have all of the information, and it turns out to be inaccurate, you cut them some slack.

However...

The Reverb says, among other things, "Just found out this was worked on by owner of Robin Guitars in 2022, which was the year he unfortunately passed away."

I didn't tell the seller that "Dave worked on it" at all. I said the neck has a 2022 serial number, because he has it listed incorrectly as a 2001 and he said that it was all original.  These two points are mutually-exclusive.

Yes, Dave did, in fact pass away in June, 2022, but that doesn't mean he ever touched it.  I do think the serial number was done by Dave, but the numbers are larger than any other Robin serial I've ever seen.

Dave's main builder/assembly guy, Mike, was left out in the cold when Dave died.  Dave's family was no help and he had to do what he had to do.
He assembled several guitars after Dave passed (with Dave's brother's approval) and sold them and a bunch of parts from the warehouse in lieu of a severance/sorry-you're-out-on-your-ass package.

Is it still a Robin?  I would say Yes.  IF that is what this guitar is, it is no different than any other bolt on neck Robin you can find.
Mike assembled those as well.  The only difference is whether Dave was alive or not at the time.

Either way. the "guitar" is not a 2001. Maybe the body is, but the neck is a 2022.
It could be a 2001 body with a 2022 neck, it could be a 2022 guitar pieced together and sold directly from Dave (which Mike would have assembled), or pieced together an sold by Mike after Dave had passed away.

Either way, I'm done giving this seller a pass.

Ignorance is one thing, but willful ignorance is another.

Then there is purposeful deceit.

The price is up by $210.00 over this morning (when I first clicked the link, above).  Was $1,099 this morning.  Now $1,309.00.  Still likely a bargain, but certainly less so.

It was $1090 when I posted about "the bargain" 4 hours ago.

Has this dude taken a blow to the head?

Ugh... I just bought an LSL Saticoy about a month ago for 1700 bucks... so I can't do it... but I wish I could!  (the Saticoy is KILLER though)
