RobB Posted April 26, 2024 Posted April 26, 2024 (edited) It has been a while since I've had as much fun at a show! The Babyklok tour landed in SF last night. The Masonic Auditorium was packed. For those of you who think BabyMetal are a joke, I'd revisit your thoughts. Whoever thought of marketing a band combining J-Pop and death metal is a genius. Their dancing schtick, video/visuals and the brutality of their band were so effin' entertaining. The lead singer was live, the other two ladies probably had some help from FOH. Their drummer was killer. Guitarists had the typical, detuned 7strings, sweeping arpeggios as per the party line. Their rhythm playing was excellent. Haven't seen Dethklok in more than a decade. No keyboards on this tour, not even ProTools tracks through the PA. They. Were. Awesome. Seeing them with the mighty Gene Hoagland on drums was an aural assault. Every song was tight, aggressive and grooving. The huge video wall behind the band ran the whole set, with the band supplying the soundtrack to the videos (video karaoke?). Both Brendon Smalls and the other guitarist were on point, every song. I wish they could have played longer, but there is an 11pm curfew in the very tony neighborhood of Nob Hill. If this tour comes to your area, do yourself a solid and check them out. It was so great. Edited April 26, 2024 by RobB 5 Quote
alantig Posted April 27, 2024 Posted April 27, 2024 I saw that tour last September. Nilli Brosh was the second guitarist in Dethklok on that tour, and Bryan Beller was on bass before leaving for another tour. BabyMetal was wildly entertaining. I wasn't expecting to like them nearly as much as I did. Dethklok was awesome - I'd thought I'd never get to hear those songs live again. 2 Quote

tbonesullivan Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 Babymetal is definitely an interesting concept, and I remember when people first started posting videos of it. The original members were all part of the same teen idol group, and Babymetal grew out of that. They all dance, with one of the girls as a lead vocalist, and the other two as "scream" vocalists. They definitely are all talented, and their backup band is incredible. I will have to see if I can see a Dethklok show. I should probably watch the TV show too. Quote
Brooks Posted April 28, 2024 Posted April 28, 2024 I saw Dethklok w/ Mastodon quite awhile back, that was a kickass show. Quote

You definitely should watch the TV show. Dethklok (the cartoon band) makes Spinal Tap look like a bunch of PhDs. 3 Quote
